ok i am new to the High Boy but when my father purchased it the dealer said there was a broken bolt on the T-case some where he thought a mount idk but i was wondering if this support bar was suspose to be there?
dont know if they added this or what this is for so idk help me yes its a high boy the divorced 205 and the 32" frame spacing with leafs
I've never really messed with a highboy either, but I'm 99.9% positive that is NOT stock. Sure as heck looks like someone booger welded that bad boy on there to me.
i maybe mistaken, but tat migt be a factory support bar.i had a 68 f-250 about 20 years ago ( wish i never got rid of it now ) and i'm pretty sure that it had that same bar on it.
Some had them and some did not. Notice the frame mount in the second pic. It has factory rivets. Kinda hard to put those in aftermarket.
As far as the guy that did not know how to weld goes, probably could have done a better job of sticking those things together, obviously broke once before, but that is a factory support.
the reason my guess was "not factory" was because of that second pic. All else looks like it could have been factory, but in that second pic it looks like 3 pieces of 3/16" or 1/4" welded to the frame. I was reading it as the rivets were there from something else and he welded his bracket to that. It is hard to tell where the weld bead is due to rust. I guess you learn something new every day, and Ford never ceases to amaize me with their band-aid type fixes - haha
The bar doesn't appear to be factory, but I wouldn't remove it. My 77 highboy didn't have one and the frame mount bushings were a ittle loose. I kept having to replace the u joints, then I saw another highboy with a similar brace and built one. I don't have u joint problems anymore and am currently replacing the bearings in the transfer case, I think they're bad because that bar wasn't there.
hey thanks guys so for now i might want to look into cleaning up the lower mount to the tcase and maybe putting a different end on with bushings on the tcase side? sound good?

you only need a bushing on one end. That bushing is at the frame side. the bushing only acts as a vibration isolator. having two bushings will aloow the case to move around and negate the use of the bar altogether. Would be like not having one at all.
hey i guess thats pretty smart huh! well i dont know maybe tighten the bolt so it doesnt move as much. it is weird cuz when you give it gas the drivetrain all snaps like it has monster torque. the shifter on the floor moves back a little like being jerked so i dont know what is wrong
You might check to make sure the case is tight, mounted to the frame, the bushings that mine were mounted with were shot. Theres also bolts that the bushing plates mount to the case with to check. My shifter moved all over the place when I gave it gas or let off.
Dont want to beat a dead Horse but i Just Picked up a 75' F250 yesterday and it also has this support bar. Cant answer for your booger welds but mine is bolted on one end and rubber bushed on the other as yours is
