TremecGT,
Call Matt at Spartan Diesel and talk with him about his eco tune for towing. I am running Matt's eco tune for towing and am every happing with it. I own a 2006 F-350 cc FX4, running a Banks 4" cat back exhaust, 33 X 12.5 toyo MT tires with a leveling kit. I pull a 30' 5th wheel trailer weighing in at around 11,000 lb and getting 11.5 to 12 MPG with Matt's tunes. My truck has 30,000 miles on it now. Before the tuning package from Matt I was getting around 9 MPG with 25,000 miles on her. I see this mileage pulling at 70 MPH. I live in northern Nevada and see alot of elevation changes in this part on the country. And the power increase is great!! I also have installed gauges for the EGR temps and tranny temps. I am seeing EGT around 1200 degrees pulling steep grades at 60 MPH with the trailer in tow.
Thanks, Im going on a 800 mile round trip starting tonight, So Cal to Bridgeport, then thru Nevada to Las Vegas and home. Im 1200 lb's less and going to keep it at 60 and see what I can do for milage, everything I have read seems great for the Spartan Tunes, prolly budget for the gauges first, then the tuner! Mark
Well finished a 1340 mile round trip up CA thru Nevada and back, stayed at 60-62 on tow haul and got 11 miles per gallon, up a little but for droping 10 mph and 1200 punds, nit real great. Sure does pull nice though!

I'm in SoCal too and we have similar trucks. My trailer is a little ligher than yours. We frequent the same highways.
I just got back from a week in Lee Vining. I got 9.9 mpg from Whittier to Big Pine where I refueled before climbing Sherwin. Coming home, from Lee Vining to Whittier, I got 12.8 mpg and did not refuel. I would say our mileage results are similar. But what a pleasurable towing experience, right? I set the cruise control at 62 and pulled Sherwin grade without losing even 1 mph.
By comparison, the trip to Big Pine in my '04 F150 with 5.4 motor I would barely get 7 mpg going north, and about 9 mpg going south. And it was a white knuckle experience, in second gear a lot.
It is what it is, so I just try to enjoy the journey.

I will second the UE-T from Spartan. I got a perfromance increase as well as gained a minimum of 1.5mpg while towing 11k. My UE-T report is post #5 in the following link:
Hey bpounds, sounds like we made the same trip and upgraded form the same truck, for the same reasons! We went thru Lee ining, to bridgeport then back to big pine, Glacier Lodge then over the 168 to Nevada 95 to Vegas, fun trip. Did the hill to and from Glacier Lodge in the 03 with 5.4L F-150 and it was prolly the worst feeling going down that hill relying onthe trailer brakes because there was no way the F-150 would stop us! Bought the 06 for the very next trip and it sure does tow nicely.
I plan on upgrading gauges first then talking to Spartan about som reprogamming. Thanks for the help!

That hill from Big Pine up to Glacier lodge is prolly the worst hill I've ever pulled. I've been going there since I was a kid and I've seen so many vehicles disabled, or just out of poop, on that hill. Including my own '88 F150. Overheating mostly. But it's a breeze with the PSD, both up and down. I can go downhill and barely use the brake at all, just let the tow/haul do the job. Mostly just touching the brake to force the downshift. It's sweet!
We mostly use Upper Sage Flat campground.
Ha, speaking of Big Pine - there is a Toyota Tundra commercial where this guy says his family goes to Big Pine and pulls his, I forget how big, boat up to the top. He comments on the 2,500' change in elevation and how his Tundra pulls it no problem. It's cool to see some tiny little place on TV that you are familiar with. And everything he says is true, except the funny thing is, there is no navigable water in that canyon. There is no good reason to pull a big boat up that hill.
Maybe we'll see each other up there. Look for a dark stone color SD.
