Hey guys, I have a 2002 explorer that occationally throws a o2 sensor down stream bank 1 code, it is not causing any drivability issues and the light goes out after a short while and it will not come back on for weeks sometimes months. My question is, instead of just replacing the suspected faulty o2 sensor, is there a way to check and possibly clean the faulty o2 sensor? I'm kinda cheap when it comes to throwing coin at somthing if I don't have to.
thanks for the help.

sorry it took so long to get back, the code # is PO136, faulty o2 circiut, its the bank 1 down stream o2 sensor. Like I said, the light only comes on once in a while for a brief period of time and then it goes out for quite awhile. I know it is a 4 wire sensor so it could be a number of things, I just wondered if it was serviceable (cleanable and testable).
well with the check engine light only coming on once in a while it will be hard to trake down. prob need to replace the sensor, but if could be a wire problem. sorry could not give better info but with it only happening sometimes it will be hard to diag the exact problem.
That was a good idea, O2 sensors should be replaced once in a while anyway. I sell catalytic converters, and the number one thing that causes them to fail is bad O2 sensors, and most bad O2 sensors do not trigger codes. They just stop giving ACCURATE signals.
