O2 sensor code
I just bought the truck on Monday, the CEL popped up on Tues.
It shows code 0136. No other codes. CAT "not ready" on scan tool
A google search proved this is a common topic that for some owners is a repeating and cronic sort of issue. What I've read online is that there is an assortment of things that can cause this O2 sensor to throw this code:
Actual bad O2 sensor
Faulty wiring or connection
Misfire throwing mix off
bad convertor
I don't believe this list covers all the accounts I read but these I have were definitely repeat offenders.
My intention is to take to a dealer and let them have first crack at sorting it out. I'm handy enough but I see this as something where an unseen detail can drive ya crazy.
Anyone have any opinion or experience with this?
Find a good local repair shop, ask around the auto parts stores who they would trust to work on there cars.
IMO you most likely have a bad O2
I googled it for you.

Any way, it just sits there and monitors. Yours is producing 0 volts vs the .1 to .9 that is expected. It may have bad wires, a bad heater, or be non-functional totally.
I would expect that the seller, if a dealer, would have at least a 30/30 warranty that would apply - 30 minutes after you sign, and 30 feet out the door .. Worth a check to see if they'll stand up to it if applicable. Here, the seller must provide up-to-date emissions sticker, if a dealer, I think.
Anyway worth also looking under the truck, at the wires & O2 that are mounted after the cat for obvious reasons it will not produce any juice. Broken wires or loose connectors can be cured relatively cheaply. The O2 might swap with the upstream sensor to see if it is totally dead or just playing possum. The code would follow a bad O2.

Yeah your 30.30 assessment of the used car warranty is pretty much on target. As IS, no warranty. Like it or not.
This is about par for me and used cars. Almost always, something to shake out and then I drive them until there's nothing left to avoid having to repeat the whole experience.
I get my money's worth, generally driving my 'daily driver' well into the 200000s. This one is starting off a little worse than most but not THE worst. (not yet
