Anybody know anything about the helix power tower? It is a unit that raises the throttle body injection unit by one inch. Its suspossed to create a vortex air flow improving fuel atomization, thus giving more horses, etc.
Does it work as advertized? I get a little leery about things only one inch tall doing great things to the air flow.
Its for a F150 4.2 L.
Thanks
I found the site. [link:www.onestoptruckshop.com/ONLineOrdering/FORDHelix.htm|Helix Power Tower] Here is a pic of the one for the [link:www.onestoptruckshop.com/ONLineOrdering/FORDHelix.htm|4.2L]
All I can say is, someone should call the better business bureau. Any "vortex" created by this unit would be way upstream from where the fuel is injected (near the intake valves). I can't see how they can make any performance claims for the 4.2L. Any performance difference would probably come from the volume change in the intake manifold. But, I wouldn't assume it would result in increased performance. The turbulence it creates would probably reduce airflow. The end result, in my estimation, would be lost performance. As for fuel efficiency, any change, one way or the other would probably be negligable.
For engines that actually have TBI (throttle body injection), I can see how this product could be beneficial. Especially, if the injector(s) are in poor condition, and not atomizing the fuel well. But, even then, their 20hp claim seems high to me. I would need to see some real dyno data before I would be convinced.
I tried one on a 98 F150 4.6l v8 extended cab short box w/ a leer cap 4spd automatic 3.08 rear end. I kept track of fuel economy before 7 after installation. I could not find enuff of a difference to warrant the price. i think this kind of device performs better when placed between the carb & manifold, there it improves the mixture of air & fuel. The 4.6 is multi port injection, so in my opinion there is no benefit. i returned mine for a full refund.
