After getting my brake booster rebuilt. (shop said 3 days, took 9) I put it in and Ta Da, I have good brakes. Go for test drive and engine starts to misfire a little. I just put two new heads on a week ago. What is the problem? Oh, did I mention the wiring fire? Limp the truck home breathing burnt wiring all the way. Fix the wiring snafu, and truck still runs poorly. Next day get plugs and wires since I can't remember when they were first bought. Nope still runs poorly. Put new Pertronix in. (see above wiring fire comment) Still crap. New cap and rotor. Still ugly. Finally change the fuel filter. Thats it! Runs like a scalded cat now! Wait, why did my brake pedal go to floor? Where did brake fluid go? One of the right rear wheel cylinders has apparently let go. I say apparently because the neighbor that had the the big impact for taking 1 1/4 lugs off has moved away. Icant even get the @#%@% wheel off to look. As I walk around trying to figure out my next move I see that sometime in the past week I have ran over a perfect grille and hood for my 2nd Farmall A that I am restoring. Got the whole tractor for the tin work and then ran it over!!! ^*%*%*&$$^!!!
So after spending about $200 on ignition parts it is a $4 fuel filter. Another $200 for brake booster only to have the a wheel cylinder not handle the boost. No easy way to take wheel off. And I basically ruined a near perfect set of tin for a 56 year old tractor.
I then go racing at the local circle track and while fighting for the lead with under 10 laps to go my right front tire blows, costing me a top 2 finish and ending up last.
Thanks for wading thru this. Some weeks are just not that good I guess.
I went to NAPA and bought a B I G T R U C K lug wrench.
Get yourself a piece of pipe to use as a snipe. You'll have no problems getting those lugs off.
You need to replace your rear wheel cyls. REPLACE. I tried to rebuild mine. (NAPA has the kits) I hones the livin daylights out of them and still couldn't get all the pits out.
Maybe you'd be luckier.
Consider this though.... ....If you develop a leak due to a bad wheel cyl. You lose the brakes. not a great prospect for an 8000lb truck.
Last Wednesday - Races rained out (we race dirt late models)
Last Friday races rained out - 12" rain, ended up working a 17.5 hour day (I manage a road department and we had 150 roads under water!)
Saturday - Worked all day again and races rained out again. Got declared a disadster area (the whole county, not just the area around me!)
Sunday - Worked again, finally got all the roads reopened at least
Today - meet with FEMA for disaster mitigation. Can you say paper work?
Wednesday - supposed to race again but predicting rain..again. Arghhhh!!!
Good news on the horizon? On Friday I'm gonna start blowing my '57 apart for a marathon next week. New MII IFS, big brakes, 289/C4 (if the tranny builder comes through), Mustang gas tank conversion, aluminum radiator, Torq Thrust wheels and some sheetmetal repairs. Going to be a fun week.....if all the parts are here. Still waiting on a few to arrive.
Where does one get brakes parts for an F600 FORD truck?
JOBLOT??
Have a 1992 catalog.....They have told me at least twice lately that they don't have a current catolog......."Working on it" they say.....
Sent them a letter (with a stamped return address envelope) with a list of several part numbers and if they were available and the prices.....
NOTHING!!
Has been about 2 weeks since sending the request.......
