Leather Interior

How well has your leather held up in your trucks, I am going to get an F-150 CC, in a couple of months and I am either going to get XLT, or the Lariat. I would like the lariat, but I am worried about the leather looking like crap in a 5-10 years, since I keep my trucks for a while.

My leather in my 04 is holding up good. I have only had this truck or 4 months. When I bought it the driverside seat was wore a little and had a hole in it like some one jabed a pen or screwdriver in it. My dealer changed it out for me.

On the other hand I had a 04 expedition that I had to get both front seat covers replaced with under 10k miles on it. The biggest cause of wear that I have seen is sliding in and out of the truck.

If you want good leather consider the king ranch. The saddel leather will hold up a lot better.

As long as you stay on top of cleaning & treating it. Seems like you have to really stay on top of the KR leather. Not as much on a Lariat.

I've owned two Lariats, & eventually you can see the effects of constant use, but as long as you take care of it, it should be fine. That said, I wish I had cloth!

I have an 06 Lariat. The leather is tough, but it will scratch. I did so with a packet of fish hooks in my back pocket. When I bought this truck I told myself I would never get in it with something in my back pocket. Yeh well that worked out well. Good thing is, it is thick leather in the Lariat. I was able to treat and buff out most of the scratch. I guess the longer you own them the more you put your signature on them.

Point is, I would not think twice about leather. It is easy to clean and maintain. Spills wipe up, where on cloth it will stain. I would go with leather.

And by the way the Lariat is one nice truck. You will not be dissapointed!

With the fabric they use on the seats these days, I think I'd worry at least as much if not more about the fabric looking like crap over time. It's like stuff they should be making curtains out of, not seating surfaces.

The black leather is a hot sumbitch when you first get in if it's left in the sun in the summer. Once the cab gets cooled down, it's not too bad.

Go with the FX4 and get the sport leather. I have found that this is tougher than the lariat soft leather. It is a little harder seat but I have had my truck a year and a half and I go from job site to job site and it still looks new. I treat it with McGuires about every 3 months. I came from always having cloth but I love the leather in the FX4

I have had the leather in several F-150's and it does hold up well but after a few years it does tend to look lived in. My advice, if you like the leather get it and after several yrs it doesn't look good to you put seat covers on. At least you get the benefits of the leather while you are enjoying the new truck. What usually happens to me is the outside ends up taking much more of a beating over the years that I just don't worry so much about the leather.

If you want a Lariat but decide you don't want leather seats I'll trade you for the seats in my new '07 XLT.

My '05 has cloth seats, which is what I wanted. I've had several vehicles with leather , and believe me, when its 114 degrees and the windows are up, DO NOT get in this truck with shorts on. When my cloth wears out, my upholsterer buddy says he will do them with my tanned elk hide for inserts. (some day). My drivers seat will be the first to wear on the left bolster, as when you get in and out, you have to kind of slide over the seat.

Now, I do not have long term experience on this, but I have been told that if you "feed" your leather a couple of times a year, or in other words clean it very well and put some good conditioner on it, it will last much longer. Now come on, nothing is going to last forever, with me sliding my fat rear in and out of the cab. Every thing wears out or succumbs to age and environment.

Having said all that jumbo, I suspect that most all car manufactures build there cars including interior, material to help there bottom line. If the F-150 had leather like a rolls, I could not afford the vehicle.

But I agree with an above post. The cloth feels like my wifes panty hose! It won't take much to get it looking like a train wreak.

I guess ford thinks, we all get into our trucks with three piece suits, and have private drivers.

But then again at todays prices for a vehicle, maybe we should have that!

I guess Ford could use thicker leather on the Lariat seats, heck they only use leather on the fronts- and the back, ex-cab and crew-cab vinyl, Hard to tell the diffrence, visually.

My wife's 97 Cougar Sport has the cloth/leather combination (cloth in the center of the seats) which is an excellent comfort design. I can say that the leather has held up excellent and I have full leather in my 2006 Lincoln Mark LT which is holding up equally. I also believe you must protect the seats from direct sunlight (through sunshades & tinted glass). I use Lexoral cleaner and Connolly Hyde cream conditioner (which even in the most hot dry climates works excellent). In coller climates where the vehicle is typically parked in a covered area, you can easily use the Lexoral conditioner (liquid).

Connolly is actually made in England, costs about $20 for a jar which will last you for 5 years and is used (under their own label) at Rolls Royce, Ferrari & Lamborgini dealers. Others may as well also. It must be used minimally and excess wiped off when completed, but I cannot say enough for the product. When we lived in a desert climate, I conditioned the seats every 3-4 months, now we are at the beach, about every 6 months.

The leather in my 04 Lariat is wearing very well. The only problem I am having is keeping it clean. It seems that after I use the cleaner, they still look brownish down in the grain. I used a small brush and wow, did the dirt come out then. I finally got them clean. I hate to use the brush, but I don't want to put conditioner on top of ground in dirt.

I also have an '04 Lariat with the black leather, and it is still in good shape at 50K miles. Actually, my friends all comment how nice my truck is, and it has been dubbed "The Limo" at work. I usually use Lexol cleaner and conditioner.
