I have a question for anyone that has swapped out the stock radio head unit with an after market. My truck has a built in amp just above the accelerator pedal and was hoping for some advice in getting the new speakers hooked up to the new head unit with out running a bunch of wires. Right now I'm thinking to just cut the wires at the connectors at the amp and do some solder splices. Before I do all this here are a couple ?s.
1. Is there a bypass connector for the amp to run the speaker wires straight from the radio to the speakers?
2. Does anyone have the wiring schematic on this?
3. I bought a Metra install kit for the radio, but it looks like total junk. Anyone have experience with a different brand before I fab something up?
well i have a aftermarket cd player in my truck i went and bought the install kit from wal-mart and everything from there was just putting red to red blue to blue grey to grey and so on i have 2 12s behind my seat and a capacitor and a 100 watt amp with 4 guage wire running 2 supply all of that
I use crutchfield for all my radio stuff. Yes there is a harness that will hook right into the vehicle harness for the speakers. you just get the harness and unplug the output wires from the factory amp and then hook in your new harness. Its very easy. When I bought mine it was plenty long to even run to the back of the rear seat via sill plates to hook into amps first. if you have a hard time finding it let me know and I can search around a bit tomorrow to help you find it.
Thanks for the heads up about Crutchfield. Will go with them for the amp bypass harness. Should save some time and allow me to put stock system back if needed. Amp is real close to the top of the accel pedal assy so should be easy. Thanks again.
the metra kit is pretty flimsy until you get the sleeve from the CD player in there.. just be gentle with it and it will work great for you, thats what i have in mine and it was fine
