1981 Econoline E350 Cutaway...but the "VIN" number you listed is unfamilar to me. There's a VIN plate located on the left corner of the dash, visible through the windshield that should have a 17 digit VIN on it. That I can decode.

Since the build date is in September 1980, it's a 1981. New vehicles are usually introduced around September 1st. This means that in your case, 1980 production would have ended in July 1980, 1981 production commences soon after.

There is next to zero differences between a 1980 Econoline and a 1981, meaning the changeover from one model year to another would be accomplished in a matter of days.

The VIN you posted above translates to 1979.

How a 1979 Econoline can have a build date of September 1980 is ???

I believe this vehicle was exported when new.

Your VIN decoded.

E37 = E350 Cutaway

B = 300 I-6 1V

H = Lorain Ohio Assembly Plant

DK582? = 1979

I can explain that.

When they manufacture a vehicle for export - they stamp a build date for an expected arrival date.
i.e. nowadays it is 3 months in advance. Back in 79 it might have been 6 months (or more) to get it to Germany.

This is just so that vehicles in the dealership don't seem "old" or out-of-date...
