Question 6.0 or 7.3

i am looking at getting a powerstroke but don't know whch one to get the 7.3L or the 6.0L. I want somthing with the most power after mods but still somthing very reliable. I herd the 6.os had quite a few issues but did the solve them in latter modles?
if u have any advice please give me an idea

what price rnage you looking at?

if price doesn't matter, than just get new, if it matters a little, get a 2005+ to be safe, if price really does matter, then looks like you are in older truck range anyway.

if you want to mod the hell out of it and race it, pull with it and mud with it, than get the 7.3.

if its just a chip and exhaust for the 7.3...then the power of a 6.0 is fine stock.

6.0 liter . period. get a good one and you will have plenty of miles of fun.
there is no reason you cannot race/pull/mod the heck out of a six oh...

you will not get the performance from a 7.3 that you will get with a 6.0

you can get the performance out of a 7.3 but it just costs A LOT more. 0
If I was looking at getting a newer truck right now, I would get a 2005+ 6.0 , several co workers have 6.0's and they have never had any problems with them. I

yes, they did fix the problems and any 2003-2004 that had problems by now will have it very documented, so its pretty easy to avoid those.

if i found a 2003 6.0 that was clear, i sure wouldn't pass it up just because others had problems, if it didn't have problems by 60k plus miles, then it is not a problem child in my opinion.

I think you've gotten good advice so far, unless you're trolling. "out pull any other truck"? What do you mean by that?

I'd take my current 6.0 in any situation I can imagine, over the dmax I traded it in for.... Of course you realize there's a lot more to a real truck than just the motor....

true true diesel dan...

go ahead and play tug of war against a dmax, and when his radius rods/tie rods snap or bend you'll be glad you bought a real truck.

I'd recommend the 6L over the 7.3L. Yeah, the 7.3 is revered as the most reliable, but some of us have differing opinions. I now have 42k miles on my 05 and it hasn't needed anything in terms of repairs. I previously had a 7.3L and by the time I hit 42k miles, it had been in the shop 4 or 5 times (I can't remember exactly) for new injectors, relays, and an ECM. My 7.3L was chipped and my 6L stock would outpull it. Now that I have my 6L tuned, it will walk all over the 7.3L in terms of towing and the truck is just a much better truck now. Just run an OASIS first and if there hasn't been anything wrong yet, it's probably going to keep on the same track. Good luck.

And if you want to have a real towing war with a Duramax, just find a big summit on a hot day and you'll win most of the races based on the fact that the Duramax has such a hard time not overheating. And forget adding any power to the Allison tranny, it can't take any additional power without upgrading the tranny first. We've found all these things out with my dad's new Duramax. But hey, it does ride nice when it's not loaded down.

I have had a 7.3 it was a 95 mind you with 235hp the 03 6.0 I have has 100hp more so I do notice the difference. The difference I notice between the 7.3 and the 6.0 is getting rolling power. The 7.3 has more power to get rolling than the 6.0 but once the 6.0 is rolling the 7.3 would never come close.

I think the 6.0 low end power has to do with the emissions crap. My truck has a 6spd manual so it takes a little more work getting the truck rolling. I have 4:30 gears so they are a little on the tall side but they do the job.
