Anyone know of a good engine builder in saskatoon? I am going to bring my 302 from my 89 to a builder this winter, and so far all I know of is hackles in PA. I wanna get a few different quotes before I get someone to do it too.
Northside does good work, they do all the work in house. AutoTrends is real good, they ship the block and rotating assembly out for machining and do all assembly in house. There are a few places in Regina that are very high quality.
One place I don't trust too much is Thanes/Prairie Machine, they do good machine work but thier assembly and parts are not the greatest.. they screwed up a motor for a friend with the wrong bearings and wouldn't warranty it... which led me to build my 390 myself.
Sweet thanks a ton guys I was contemplating doing the 302 myself, but I just wont have time for it this winter. I also want to spend all my time and energy into my 460 next year.
I get my engines done at Warman automotive. I never had any problems with any of their work. The engines all stand up and last. Their costs are lower than Northsides. Northsides I find charge way too much. The Unrah brothers of Warman are good and fair.
It would be around the 2000 mark give or take. That is with noting fancy done to it. Just a good honest rebuild. If you provide them with extra parts like a performance cam and the accessories I think they would oblige you by installing them and warn you if there would be any problems.
Nathan: "Let's think about this for a sec, Preppy. Why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmm. Very interesting." Preppy: "Go on, I'm listening." Nathan: "Here's the way I see it, Preppy. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside." Preppy: "Yeah, it makes a man feel good." Nathan: "Of course it does. Why shouldn't it? You figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the guarantee fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Preppy?" Preppy: "What's your point?" Nathan: "The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy gasoline sniffer? 'Building engines', say's the little fairy. Well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. Next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your engines knocking. I've seen it a hundred times." Preppy: "But why do they put a guarantee on the box, then?" Nathan: "'Cause they know all the sold you was a guaranteed piece of crap. That's all it is isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your sake, for your trucks sake, you might want to think about buying a quality product from me."
