Hello everyone : I have a 1994 f 350 4 door, it has 164,000 miles on ir . I was driving it in a trip this summer I was about 4 hour away from home when I polled off the highway my truck was running real rough an blow blue smoke I took it to the ford dealer an he said I had #2 piston had only 150 psi the rest have 300, an I was getting lost of blow by into my crank case . when I got it home I did my own test an my # 2 piston only had about 120 psi an I am making oil . my question is my motor bad or what ? also it is a 7.3 with mechanical fuel injection
but from what I can tell I have a K 5 spacese over in my vin I have hear that stands for a power stroke am I right. thank for your help Rick
Some of the older manual 7.3s have problems with the sleeves. but it could be a number of things. This is actually the Powerstroke forum there is one spacifically for those idi trucks and i bet you they can tell you alot more on there than i can.
I had my test done by the dealer an then I did it myself but I did not add any oil to it , #2 is real hard to get to the way they ran the injector lines. it say power stroke on the side if my truck
If you have injector fuel lines running to each cylinder then you have an IDI not a Powerstroke. Someone probably just put the Powerstroke badges on the truck.
Yeah you don't have a powerstroke. But the bad news is you do have internal engine problems. The best thing to do it a leak down test which will point you in the right direction for where the compression is going. Since you said you have lots of blowby you probably have worn/broken rings, worn cylinder, or a cracked piston.
Thanks for the bad news that is what I was thinking but I thought I would try an see if it was something eles I gess I am buying a new motor. thank you again . Rick
yeah IDI have been known for valve stem issues which result in poor seating of the valves. Leakdown before you do anything. Also your motor could be repaired.
But if my oil level is going up in my crank case wount that tell me I have bad ring or broken , my oil is 2 inch above the full line . I just changed it befor I went on my tipe an all this started to happen . should I do the test anyhow an can I do it my self ? Rick
it requires a special adapter for the glow plug hole but you can make on if you can weld or braze. you just need to get the motor with the cylinder your testing to top dead center with both valves closed then using your adapter apply air pressure to the cylinder. then find out where the air is goine. if its coming out the intake then your intake valve is bad, exhuast- exhaust valve, bubbles in the coolant- headgasket, hole in cylinder, and oil fill cap the pressure is passing by the rings or there is a hole in the piston
