Yet another tuner help question

I have a 98 F150 5.4 4" lift, 33s and 4.56s. I seem to be in an odd year for tuner featuress. Most indicate 99-03. not real clear on what features are possible on my truck. The truck is regeared and I need to fix shifts for certain. but it also needs tune assist. When I put in the original speedo gear. 28% off. Runs great, gas mileage is up, accelerates in OD, things are good. Correct the speedo, the truck instanly runs close to the way it did before the gear swap. Lazy, mpg drops, etc...

Oh, I am calculating mpg properly.

Can anyone on the board share their experiences with tuners on 98s?

No gears, no tire changes on 98.

http://www.edgeproducts.com/product.php?pk=54&pvk=160
Edge doesn't mention if they have limits on their gear/tire programs.

I was hoping to find a little more control than these provide. Appears my 98 just doesn't have many options. Thanks for the links.

You might want to check out Sniper Tuning's Special Forces and see if there stuff will fit your needs.

Sniper isn't a simple system, but it's very nice. I love mine and I did notice a change over a superchips.

I believe Special forces will work for you. However, check with Chris to make sure it will do tire/gear changes for your year.

That is more like what I am looking for. I will call Chris for limitations on my 98 model. The speedo still has a gear drive so that part is corrected. I believe the factory uses speed for input to the maps. After my experience with the gear change and speedo error, I know there is much more in the motor. Sure drove nice. Currently it is like the change from 3.55s to 4.56s is a waste of effort.

Now I need to install one of my wide band O2s

I played with MegaSquirt DIY systems for a while (converted a few carbs vehicles) and thought of just going to it. However the processor is way to slow and has some coding issues that I am not willing to dig in and correct.

Well, I shared the link with my brother to chat about, and learned last night I have a present in the mail.
Thanks for the input

Sniper is also working on Data logging and I believe it will integrate a wide band o2.

Well got my unit today. Pulled down the stock tune. all went well til I tried to upload a custom. Now I get a code 62. Vehicle software revision doesn't match. So I am hosed until I figure out how to contact Sniper. Of course the truck won't start anymore.

Where are you seeing code 63?

Try reseting the PCM, and then using the uploader as a stand alone (non-laptop mode). I noticed the first 10 or so times I had to follow the older procedure of turning the key on twice before it let me upload my tunes.

I have never had a problem in stand alone, so I would suggest trying that. As long as the truck didn't loose power during upload or erasure your OK.

The code 62 is on the sniper box. The truck did not loose power, it just hung up in the upload stage. Everything is good on the PC. I have the factory tune in the box and all that stuff. I am not sure of what the older procedure is. sending them and email to ask. I am probably missing something in my actions.

How do I reset the PCM? Hoping I don't have to wait til Monday morning for sniper to provide a special bullet to push the code back in. But that is what I expect with my research.

Some say there is a fuse, but disconnecting the battery usually works.

There are two ways to upload files depending on their size. With out refferencing the instructions, the 112k file you plug in the box, turn the key on, off and on before the 3rd and 4th LEDs flash. With the newer 224k files, you plug the box in and turn the igntion on, the first and second flash for a couple seconds and then the 3rd and 4th flash.
