Starter Mods

I'm looking to add some HP to my truck to make it more suitable for city driving and I'm wondering what you guys would recommend to get started. I'm tired of having to take comfort in knowing I can pull a big trailer while I lumber along from a stop at stoplights and watch all of the little cars shoot by me like flies strafing my head. Sometimes it feels like me and the delivery trucks.

I'm thinking 3" downpipe to stock exhaust, tuner or chip(Superchip or DP), and larger intake.
I need to be cost conscious so I'm looking for value performance. Not cheap, just value. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure down the road I'll just want more and more but I have start with baby steps.

I would start out by doing some power supporting mods such as the tymar intake, 3" tymar downpipe to a 4" tymar exhaust, do the 10k or 5.6k mod and shim your fpr. Before you do a chip your gonna need gauges. Good luck

Do you guys have a link that explains the 10K mod? I have the service manuals, so I can look up the wiring diagram for reference. Same thing for shimming the fpr. Do these kind of mods stress the stock parts like the the injectors? I don't want to be wearing out what i've got and turn this into a cascade of mods. I'm thinking I'm going to the NAPA intake and 3" downpipe for now. What's the best exhaust set up?

easiest way is put a 10,000 ohm resistor inline with the pcm return wire on your icp, its the blue with red stripe, here are photos

i know people will say do the 10K mod but it was WELL worth it to buy a chip for my truck. it really opened my truck up! you should at least consider calling Tony or Jody and ask them some questions! they are top notch guys and if you do the mods i suggested you are golden for a chip with stock sticks!

best exhaust (IMO) is straight pipe! completely free flowing exhaust from turbo outlet to the exhaust tip! no kitty, no muffler, no stock crappy DP!

fish, agreed, tony's stuff is the same cost as a superchip so why not, also i love my straight pipe(very cheap) but the 10k is still noticable in or out in my truck

Coonhunterjoe, the 10k mod is noticeable in your truck because you have a Superchip programmer. If you go with a TW chip or a DP Tuner chip it will be built in.
