Good Morning,
Just yesterday my 02' F250 crew cab 4x4 V10 (67,200 miles) started to knock/tick when I pulled away from my house on start up. It stopped within 2 minutes of running down the road. This morning it did the same thing, this is something that I have never heard before. Could I have developed the infamous piston slap @ 67,000 miles? Do you think I should be concerned? Thanks for your help!
I'm not the best person to answer without hearing the actual sound, but FWIW something like that happened to my 2005 5.4L and it was due to an exhaust donut leaking. It would do it on startup and until the engine and exhaust warmed up and then it would quiet down. Was quite loud and very annoying. It was a loud ticking sound. (Happened at 50,000 miles)
Could be a lot of different things and I would suggest getting a professional opinion.
2 common sources for "ticking" on modular engines are exhaust manifold leaks and the timing chain follower. I'd look at the exhaust manifolds first, stud rust has probably set in.
