I've purchased and installed off the shelf aftermarket Y-pipes. Not one of them fit well out of the box. They all required extra welding, bending or cutting to fit.
Not the case with my e-bay Y pipe. Went right on, no trimming, no clamping, no bending tofit, etc. Good fit right out of the box.

He doesn't know what hes talking about. The stock y-pipe is good EXCEPT for the short section where it necks down. If you take it to any old exhaust shop to bend up a new y-pipe you will more than likely get, thin tubing bad bends and flutter. The stan's or Ebay y-pipe is a good fix for the necked down section of the y-pipe. The V10 is fickle, mess with it too much and you'll get weird annoying sounds, I know from experience. No average exhaust guy is going to match the quality of a cat-back kit, unless you pay $1000+ at a specialty shop.

I bought the eBay Y pipe no problems slipped right on, i have a little flutter around 2100rpm but only for a few seconds.

The welds and quality of the pipe are nice and slipped on like a glove, if your going to have a local shop install it make sure that they can weld, And if you install it get under the truck and stair at everything for a while with a maker and maker your cuts.

the shop that put the dual exhaust on my buddies avalanche but welds on that made bird sh#t look good.

- On a side note thats what we all do is bring our trucks down to a muffler man and have them custom bed up the pipe and weld it it, they do a pretty good job and my exhaust only cost 290 for duals straight out the back.

Stan's is just a few miles from me, so I went to look at the pipe he has.

They have quite an operation there with 2 bays for installs and the rest of the building for production work, maybe 40,000 square feet total. I think they produce kits for other companies who sell them under their own name, not Stan's.

They do first class work, and anything 2.5 inches or over is mandrel bent. When I decide to do it, I'll have him install the y-pipe and a FM-70. He really likes to put glass packs on everything, but will do what you ask. I think he is a little old school in that respect.

I just haven't made it that far down on my list of things to do to the truck to bother with the exhaust yet. Money keeps going somewhere else....

I called Stan's Headers today to get a price quote for headers and exhaust system replacement for my '99. He said no one makes headers for the V10 and he didn't want to mess with broken bolts on my exhaust manifolds. He didn't sound like he wanted my bucks. I was totally unimpressed with their phone skills.

Y Pipe

See the photo in my gallery of the underside of a Quigley 4x4 Van. The Y Pipe is covered by sheet metal. Is this the piece you are all referring to?

If you were talking to Stan himself, he must have been having a bad day. When I talked to him, he was very nice and liked to talk A LOT. Maybe whomever it was meant they, {Stans}, didn't make headers for the V-10.

I don't know who I was talking to as they didn't identify themselves when they answered the phone. I told them that I had a '99 V10 F250 and I'd like to find out what it took to get headers and exhaust system installed on it. I also explained that I was getting some noise from the manifold upon startup and I suspected I had at least 1 broken manifold bolt. That is when he told me that no one made headers for the V10 and his shop had no way to deal with broken studs. He wasn't impolite but I got the definite impression that they didn't want my business. I didn't say this but, I would imagine that a shop that installs headers would have encountered a broken stud or bolt somewhere along the way. I guess I'll oblige them. I don't think it is wise to beg a shop to take your money to do something they aren't capable of. Seeing how they were being praised so highly on this forum, I thought I should add my experience.

I don't understand all the Y pipe talk. Doesn't anyone do dual exhaust any more? Wouldn't it give you more power and no chance for flutter. If I ever get enough money I'm going with dual for an exhaust shop.

Going the true duals isn't the best IMO, a lot of true dual companies like basine and Borella make crossover pipes that look like an X to equal out the exhaust to get more perfomance out of true duals. and the factory 3" is enough for these moters any bigger and you could end up losing power for loss of exhaust heat and to much area. and who wants to pay for 2 mufflers lol, if that's what you like though go for it all it takes is time and money.

I was told that on my '99 F250 SD Supercab V10 that the fuel tank would be in the way of installing the leftside of a true dual setup.
