How long between oil changes

I did my first oil change at 1500 miles which only took me a few weeks to put those miles on. I plan on changing the oil next at 4500 miles and then every 5 thousand miles after that. My question is how much actual time is too long to have the oil in there because I have not been putting very many miles on the truck lately and it is going to take me a long time to put the miles on. In 2 months I have only put a thousand miles on it.

i think the consensus on time for the 6.0L is three months, 5k miles, or every 200 engine hrs. I may be wrong on time but i think i heard that somewhere here.

i hope it is longer than that but I forgot to mention I run dino oil at least for now. Thinking about switching to synthetic but don't know which brand to get. Won't synthetic last longer?

The mileage and engine hours are correct, the time limit is 6-months max. These limits are for both dino and synthetic oil.

I'm going against the grain, and going 10,000 with Schaeffer 9000. I know what everyone else says, but I know my driving habits, and I'm paying the bills. I have no short trips, and have not noticed any rough starting that everyone says happens when the oil is broken down.

Listen to blackhat, he knows what he's talking about!

I have an 03 and use the 5K milage interval. My last Blackstone report came back real happy!

Good Luck,

Joe

I ran mine 80,000 on the 7,500 mile change interval using Shell Rotella - never a problem once.

I am thinking of stretching the time interval to 1 year. I only drive about 5,000 miles a year and it only pulls the travel trailer from about April til September and then sits in the drive until the next April with an occasional start up to charge the batteries and drive about 10 miles. Last year I filled up with diesel in September and did not refuel until April. I just can't see changing the oil for a 300 mile 6 month interval. Opinions are welcome.
