Yesterday I started my car and my primary backlighting to the instrument cluster would not light up. I have checked all of the fuses and visually checked all of the light bulbs in the back of the cluster, all of which seemed fine. The owners manual says that if the instrument cluster will not light to bring the vehicle into the service center, but I am fairly sure that is to replace the bulbs, but maybe I am wrong. If anyone has any ideas of what could cause this please let me know as any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.
I just checked the dimmer and that seemed to work alright, but then I checked fuse 18 which is for illumination and found that no power was going to it. I looked over the wiring diagram and now believe that the problem is the relay that sends power from the switch to the instrument cluster fuse.
well the relay turned out to be fine, so after all of this I am forced to believe that the real culprit here might be the multi-function switch at the steering wheel. I have no idea how to go about testing the switch as of yet and would appreciate any input into a test procedure for the headlight multi-function switch
It appears the Escape uses a microprocessor for the instrument lamps. Fuses feeding it are a 5amp, and 3x10amps. I have 2 pdf files of the connectors and schematic if you want them. Enter an Email and I'll send them ASAP.
