Extra Pedal???

Hey guys,

I'm new to the old Ford truck scene so any advice you guys give me is very much appreciated.

I just bought my 1960 F100 last week. It's pretty nice considering it's almost 50 years old.

My question: There seems to be a 4th pedal, and I cannot tell what (if anything) it operates. It's just to the left of the clutch pedal, and is quite a bit shorter thatn the clutch pedal. Are any of you familiar with this?

Thanks for your help!

Chris

Interesting! I'm sure you've already thought about the parking break.

Emergency Brake
Pushing it down activates the brake and locks it. There should be a handle of some sort low on the Dash close to the pedal.

Welcome to FTE, Post some pics of your Truck. Some of us can't read and the attendants put up pictures on the screen for us to drool on.

Ahh! I suppose if the e-brake were working, I would have been able to tell! Once I order the replacement parts I need, I'll give it a whirl.

I'll try to post some pics soon!

Thanks,
Chirs

if it is not the emergency brake, it could be the foot operated windshield washer pedal. my truck had that, but i can't remeber where exactly it was placed.

If its a small paddle shaped hootus mounted down low then I would guess that its the windhsield washer pump. My 59 Ranchero had something similar, basically its a manually operated foot pump.

Very cool

Oh, I almost forgot, welcome to the board!!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I must say that the folks at this forum seem to be a lot more civil that those at some other forums I've been on.

mcdonaldm and bobbytnm: As with the emergency brake, the window washers don't work. There's a long list of things that need to be repaired or replaced, but it runs pretty good and the body is in above average condition.

Here are the specs:
1960 Ford F100
223 i-6, 3 on the tree
2wd
no options (PS, PB, etc.)

None of the gauges work, but the lights do, and it runs. I'm considering a wiring harness from Ron Francis because one of the previous owners "had his way" with the wiring.

Thanks again,
Chris

Chris -

Before you buy the Ron Francis wire set, check out the EZ Wire 21 circuit setup. It has had rave reviews from members here.

EZ Wire Harness

Unless you are building a Boydmobile the EZ Wire harness is great and EZ on the wallet. Save your money for other upgrades!!! Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for all the help - there's now a picture (as requested) in my gallery.

The windshield says $3600, which was then modified to $3000. I bought it for $2000. Honestly, other than it looking pretty good from about 20 feet, it needs a ton of work. All the glass is cracked, the windows barely work, the door flew open the other day while driving. Also, the sheet metal is pretty wavy and almost all of the interior is missing or damaged. The odometer works, as does the fan, windshield wipers, and exterior lights but none of the gauges work. I have a lot of work to do, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Once I get some pics of the interior and engine, I'll post them.

Beautiful truck is all I can say. It brings back some anger issues I have with my ex-wife though. I had one that she sold while I was gone on deployment for $200 to the scrap yard because she didn't have the keys to prove it started. I spent 8 months rebuilding everything and it only needed new wood in the bed and a fresh paint job. sigh... But alas I have the one I do now.

Hey Chris, I didn't realize you were in NM (ABQ?) You should put your town and state in your Signature (look at the upper right of my reply).

Both a manual windshield washer system and and electric washer system was offered. Both were operated by a foot pump.

The first use of a step on emergency brake was 1967.

Prior to that date, the e-brake is a dash mounted ratchet assy with a pull handle that says: BRAKE. The assembly is the same as: 1957/60 F100/350 & 1961/64 Econoline.
