Orkin Man

My house is being overrun by those tiny annoying ants. I see where they are coming in, I spray bug killer and do the whole ant trap thing, and they come in a different place in about a week, so I am thinking about calling the Orkin Man. I was just curious if people have had experience and can give me a ballpark as to the price I might expect. I live in about a 1,300 sq ft. mobile home, so I am sure they are going to have to get under the house as well as around/in it. Thanks all for the replies!

I don't use them, but my next door neighbor doe's. Not sure which company they use but the guy comes out once a month and sprays around their house. I guess my neighbor has good luck with them because they've been using them for many years. I'm too cheap to pay someone else, so I went to a garden center and bought some insecticide and I do it myself. Good luck.

Ants come inside your home for two reasons...food and water. Take a spray bottle and almost fill it with water and add just a little vinegar. Spray it anywhere they might get in. If this doesn't work, do like they used to do in the old days and leave food and water outside for 'em so they won't have any reason to come in. But you must keep this up cause if you stop, then the little buggers get real mad. You don't want 100 zillion ants mad at you. Hope this helps.

I was thinking about trying that. I have the "Raid" ant killer that works really well, but I have a dog and I don't want her to get into it, so I am hesitant to go spraying around the house. Water and vinegar will be safe for her though. I have found two places they come in, and stopped them from coming in there, but they just find a new place to come in in a few days. Thats why I was thinking about Orkin to kill the nest/colony. I am also thinking about throwing one of those foggers under the house, but I am afraid it will seep into the house, and might be toxic.

We have had those tiny brown ants come into our house by the millions before. I read that cinnamon will deter them. I tried it and it seemed to really work!

I sprinkled ground cinnamon at their entry point and along areas that they seemed to travel the most.

I don't know if it works for black ants though. We have those as well, but not in the quantities we were seeing with the tiny browns.

ETA: Cinnamon cleans up real easy, smells good to us, and is harmless to pets and kids!

IM a professional landlord and i flip houses as part of my career. what i have always done is to get a professional exterminator and have gotten four or five estimates from the phone book and ive included the orkin guy as well as terminex and it seems that usually the little guy will beat them all out. i make sure they all use the same kind of chemicals and offer warrantees.. my only problem is that one guy i hired to do termite work was suppoused to do the construction and didnt replace all the studs he was suppoused to so my advice is to watch em like a hawk no matter who you hire

Get the pros in on it......It shouldn't break the bank, and they know what to look for and how to stop it, and will likely have some sort of follow-up inspection/treatment built in. Ants will be easier and MUCH cheaper than termites (which is what I had to do a couple of years ago).....and the guy I hired (friend, works for TermiTech) did an outstanding job and haven't seen any signs of termites anywhere near the house.......

I'd get a quote and a warranty associated with the estimate and go from their. If you can and wish to foot the bill, it's a done deal. Their job is to kill pests - so I'm sure that they are a little more informed than you or I.

I've always had success doing things myself. I've used spray raid outside and terro bait indoors and never have had a problem past a week. I'd suggest you get the vaccumme out, wash any old dishes, check for any food/old plates lying around, etc.

Good luck

I spray my house with a garden sprayer. All along the edges of the house and about a foot up the wall. I use liquid sevin, it kills all the bugs like ants and roaches. The animals do not seem fond of it so I would not worry about it hurting them. The spray raid always seems to work great on the inside for me.
