I have a problem. I am looking for another 7.3. I travel around 40-50k miles a year for my job. I do not know which style of body to get?
I can get a Superduty crew with 150k miles for 15-18k or I can get the 94-97 crew with 200-250k miles for around 8-10k. I know with the OBS I will deal with rust but my payments will be lower and I will not have maxed out my credit, whereas if I were to pay for Superduty my credit would be close maxed out but it would look newer and doesn't appear to have the inherent rust problem.
The wife says buy a newer one because of "less" problems but with the amount of miles either style could have the same issues. Thanks hope this isn't too confusing.
Get one with the least amount of wear on the inside. inside being doors, controls, seats, dash, etc. A Ford truck if properly maintained will likely outlast the seats and doors.
With that much seat time, the newer one will be a much smoother ride with more creature comforts. Mechanically, they both would be great choices when properly cared for, which it looks like you do given your Ex's description...
Generally, the newer the truck the fewer the headaches.
Get the truck that fits your budget and be happy with it. We'd probably all love to own a 2008 F-450 KR, but most of us working stiffs can't afford it.

Not me, the new technology needs to get done with its birthing pains first, The 450 is low geared and sucks D so unless one needs all that extra towing capability one would be better to opt for a 350/250 with 373's.
I'd go with the newer one, hopefully it will have less problems and rightfullly should. Plus the new just look a better in my eyes.
A agree but you can keep making that decision and ending at 2008! each year they add some nice frill to entice you to upgrade but many of those frills don't mean diddilly. I drove a friends F100 the other day and was surprised how nice it drove. Of course it didn't have all the creature comforts of my 07 SD but it was still a good solid truck able to work. The F100 is no longer a dailey driver but it does get used often for local work projects.
The 94-97 F-250's I have looked at (the squared off body, same as early 90's F-150) have had solid axles.
The solid axle is strong but makes for a rougher ride than the latter systems. I like the whoosie ride and better traction with the newer system myself

If you haven't noticed, your '07 has a solid axle in front too
I was talking about the TTB (twin traction beam?) setup that the Fords had, the "independant" front end.

opps, but thats what came to mind except that was on 2x4's wasn't it. Humm, gotta go look at the 07. Sure seems to me like it has some u joints in there.
