I know that the yellow coolant is some special FOMOCO thing. My question is, is the yellow coolant the same as the orange?? I thought that I read that it was not. I just picked up my truck from the dealer (oil change and tire rotation) and they didn't top it off. When I asked him too he wanted to put the orange in and I asked him if they were the same and he said that they were.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-May-02 AT 02:52 PM (EST)]See the thread "Coolant for V-10" (http://www.ford-Trucks.com/dcforum/DCForumID43/2.html)in the FTE "V10" Message Board and the Thread "Coolant in 2002 F250 Superduty v10" (https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/superduty/2478.html) in the FTE "Superduty and Heavyduty" message board - to make a long story short:
You CANNOT mix the red/orange stuff with the Gold
You can probably mix the Green stuff with the Gold but it is not recommended to do so for now (until Ford completes its compatability testing)
The Ford part number for the gallon jug of the Gold stuff is VC-7-A (VC-7-B in Oregon, VC-7-C for a 55 gallon drum of the stuff). I got a gallon at the local dealership for approx. $8.
Eventually, Ford is putting this stuff in all of their vehicles
Valvoline (Zerex) makes the Gold stuff for Ford
It should be available in stores in the near future
When your Ford parts dept says they never heard of such and try to sell you the green or the red/orange, refer them to the Ford Modified Vehicle Engineering Bulletin (QVM Bulletin) No. Q-79 dated February 18, 2002 and TSB 02-3-4 referenced by that bulletin.
Hope this helps.....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-May-02 AT 02:56 PM (EST)]By the way, did he actually put any of the orange stuff in your truck? If so, I would take it back and make them flush the system and replace the antifreeze. According the FORDs own documentation these are not compatible and should not be mixed!

I've heard that mixing green with the new style anti-freezes is a BIG no-no. In fact, Car and Driver or Motor Trend (I get both) has a big article in this months mag about this very thing, Ken
I called him and he said that he would read that article and call me back. Within an hour he called back and said he read it, had a call into Ford, and to bring it in, in the morning. I am happy with that as I expected him to deny everything.
Thanks garymake for those numbers, without them I would have been SOL.
