I bought the shims but I did not have to use them. The new uvc harness was designed slightly different and did not require the shim. One of the uvc harness was about half way unplugged when I removed the valve cover. Now that I have replaced both uvc harness, the truck runs and starts really good but when I drove it down the highway it was slow to pick up speed. Could something have happened to the turbocharger? I plugged in the obd tool and got nothing. I guess I am going to have to take it to a diesel shop and have them check it out. Thanks for your help.

When you removed VC's did you take off the intake pipe and the IC pipes? If so go back and check all your boots for leaks, it is hard to get all the boots back on without having one leak a little bit(wich will effect turbo performance)
Thanks guys, I kept suspecting that very problem you'll described but I checked them and found nothing. Today I dropped the truck off at a diesel repair shop that my friend has used in the past. I will probably be a couple of days before I get my truck back. I will post the results when I get the truck back. I sure have learned a lot in this experience and can't wait to learn more. I have owned this truck (1999, f350, crew cab, 4 x 4, long bed, 145K mi) for about 4 years and I have had absolutly no problems until this. I pull a 12K horse trailer about 10% of the time. Just a note I change the oil regularly and when I pulled the valve covers I was really impressed on how clean every thing looked. Wayland
When playing with the PCM make sure you remove both battery ground connectors before you remove or attache any wire connectors from the PCM or you can destroy it.
I did remove both battery grounds before I removed then reinstalled the pcm, I also removed both battery grounds before I removed and replaced the idm. I don't think these are damaged and I hope they repair shop finds nothing more than an air leak in the intake or ic pipes that I had removed to get to the valve covers. I will post the repair shop results asap when I get my mule back.

BD, I got my truck back today and they found a leak on my ic pipe. The truck runs great. (better than it has in a long time). The repair shop only charged me $60 (I think they cut me some slack because they were embarrased for me! ha)
Thanks everyone for all your input. Ye haw I've got my mule back on the road! Wayland
