I need to replace my 99 ford f350 diesel powertrain control module. Any suggestions, do or don't would be appreciated. Wayland

The truck won't start and I replaced the CPS. Also the OBD tool shows no codes. I had the truck towed to the ford dealer but I am having it towed home tommorrow. The dealer has diagnosed this as the problem and the cost to replace this is $2,500. I am going to buy a new module tommorrow for $750. and try to replace myself. Wayland

That seems a little steep for a PCM, where are you buying it from?

I belive the best pcm code is PMT-2. Though im not 100%sure. Its pretty straight forward to replace.

It cost me $626.00 to buy the new one at a local okc parts distribution warehouse, but today when I got home it was the wrong one. I will pick up the right one tommorrow. I was able to get the old one out without removing the inside cover to the right front fender well but I may have to remove it tommorrow when I get the new one in order to install it. Wayland

Are you talking about the IDM (injector driver module) under fender skin or the PCM(under the dash behind e-brake?)
If its IDM, 6 bills aint bad, if its PCM then way too much.

mibad, It is the IDM, I replaced it tonight. My truck runs now, but the service engine soon light stays on and the truck is running really rough. Tommorrow I will bring home a OBD and see if I can figure out whats wrong. Getting to the IDM (not the power control module) was fairly easy after I removed the front fender well, and I'm glad I replaced it instead of paying the $2,496 the dealer had qouted.

Check the harness under the valve cover you may be shorting out the uvc harness a little. I think the 99s didnt have the shim to keep them from shorting if the come loose. Theres an OHM trick to know which side but someone else will have to tell you that

Thanks for the website referral. I bought two new uvc harness today and I am going to replace them tommorrow evening & saturday. The orginal dealer that qouted my repair said they had ohm them out and both were bad and they were going to replace them along with my IDM. When I bought the uvc harnesses today they did not say anything about the shim but I will check tommorrow.

Im not sure if the shim is stock or what guys have done to ensure the connectors dont come apart, i havent been under mine to see whats what. If you got new harnesses you might not need it Good luck hope that cures ur mule.

Ford actually changed the design of the clips(on the harness) to integrate this feature in 01 IIRC. So you should not need a shim.
