I have a 1997 f250 hvydty 7.3l with a Banks 120hp Power Pack system on it. My current problem is morning smoke (alot) when cold. If I plug the block warmer in overnight, I do not get the smoke. Blue in color. Any suggestions on what I,m looking at?
The only thing I can think of is maybe oil. Might it be getting past the engine rings when the are cold. I guess when my old car blew blue smoke it was oil, but I knew that was oil. Not sure what this could be.
It could also be a seal failure in your turbo or valve seals, or maybe something minor like a stuck PCV valve.
How many miles do you have on your 7.3?
Blue smoke means burning oil. You need to find out where it's coming from.
I have 130,000. Just had it in the shop had new injectors, glow plugs, turbo and pedestal, filter housing and lift pump installed. All the parts appeared to be bad. Quite alot of money invested to end up with the same problem as I took it in for. The truck runs absolutely great with power to spare under any load.
Vavle guide seals tend to leak on intial start up. When you plug it in, it keeps the engine warm enough(vavles&guides) so that on start up the exhaust guides don't let oil get sucked into the exhaust.

You may have a Glow plug (GP) or glow plug relay (GPR) issue. Does the engine miss a little at first start and then clear up?
The GPR is under the decorative cover on the engine. Remove it and look for a starter solenoid looking thing. Next cold start, take a screw driver and cross out the 2 large terminals on the GPR for about 30-60 seconds. Jump in the truck and start it. Come back here and Let us know what happened.
imdeed, may look blueish but thes etrucks are ok to smoke a little when the temp drops, mine will smoke a little as warm as in the 70's, how much is "alot of smoke"

Since diesel fuel is an oil it will always have a blueish tint to it cold. With only 130,000 miles on it I'd guess Cuda_jim probably hit it.
It is an issue of trust in ability. The parts were replaced per their recommendations and statements that they would fix the issue. He seems hung up on his diagnosis computer. It says everything is working fine. I have lost faith with him. If any of his work fails, he has a warranty

looks like a semi rig for about the first mile down the road then thins out then gone (as far as I can tell looking in the mirror)
