adjustable valve train

Has any one ever tried the Crane Cams adjustable valve train kit, the one with no machining (#52655). It looks like it is just some custom studs that screw into the nonadjustable holes with some guide plates with spacers so you don't have to use hardened push rods. Just wandering if this was an easy way to get in a whole lot of trouble or if it works good. I am looking at running a fairly big cam .526/276 int .533/281 exh. I have some 2V heads with 7/16 studs but they are for a 351C and i really don't want to put them on my 400 because then the Cleveland has no heads, but I will if its really the only right way to go. Thanks.

I am using that guide plate kit with their roller rockers. I did my build years ago and hadn't heard of TMI, this forums sponsor. He has other rocker arms available and I don't think you will need the conversion kit to run the rockers he sells, but check with him to make sure.

Why not have the heads machined ? It doesn't cost much money.

The machinist I used to go to retired and the rest of them in the area I really don't care to use, and I am not in o postion to have my truck immoblie for a couple of weeks. I was hoping to have a nice weekend poject a little later in the fall after it cools off, I was hoping to avoid tearing off the heads since there is nothing wrong with them they just don't have adjustable vavle train.

Well, since nobody else is answering your question, if this is what you are looking for without tearing it down, then yes it will work. BUT, these are for pedestal mount rocker arms...Cranes rockers. Like I said, I am using that Crane 52655 kit with their full roller rockers and stock 400 length Comp Cams push rods. I am also running a Ford SVO cam with .510/.536 lift, 292/302 duration (214/224 at .050"). I have had no problems. Adjusting the rockers is a little touchy, but they have good directions on their website. Hope this helps.
