Can you identify this box?

I've had several people look at this and have no idea what this steering box is out of. I know it's not a 56 Ford F100. I tried to look for numbers but it's difficult to see without getting close. I did not the casting has a letter "s" on it. (see second pic) and the adjustment plate looks like it may say Ford on it, but can't be sure. Hope the pics help.

That's a Saginaw "S", but beyond that I'm no help. Saginaw parts were used by just about averyone.

Sort of looks like an early 70's manual steering box..... It looks like the one that was in my 73 F250 4x4 only smaller.

I assume the sector shaft comes thru the frame at a "90"?

the rag-joint looks ford to me like I stated before, though I'm not positive.

1975 and later Econolines used Saginaw Gearboxes, F Series trucks did not.

Saginaw is a Division of GM, but the gearboxes are used by Ford and other makes.

Number- Do you think this is out of an Econoline Van? Where I would find numbers so I can reference this unit. I mainly want to know if this is a good steering box and worth rebuilding or just yank it and go with the Toyota box.

Why not just put in a Ford box?

The one in it is a Ford box, I'm trying to figure out what Ford it came from. I think your referring to installing the original 56 Box? From what I heard, they are not strong, wear out quickly. There is a reason so many people switch to the Toyota box despite having power steering. Your advice makes sense and would be the easiest way to go. Thanks.
