I've had several people look at this and have no idea what this steering box is out of. I know it's not a 56 Ford F100. I tried to look for numbers but it's difficult to see without getting close. I did not the casting has a letter "s" on it. (see second pic) and the adjustment plate looks like it may say Ford on it, but can't be sure. Hope the pics help.
Number- Do you think this is out of an Econoline Van? Where I would find numbers so I can reference this unit. I mainly want to know if this is a good steering box and worth rebuilding or just yank it and go with the Toyota box.

The one in it is a Ford box, I'm trying to figure out what Ford it came from. I think your referring to installing the original 56 Box? From what I heard, they are not strong, wear out quickly. There is a reason so many people switch to the Toyota box despite having power steering. Your advice makes sense and would be the easiest way to go. Thanks.

Sorry, I was just trying to be humorous, or as my daughter says a Smar -T- Pants.
