EFI air intake

Guys,
My EFI 5.0HO is now in my 54 F100. I'm trying to decide whether to buy an after market cold air intake or find an OEM air box to mount. I'm using a GT40 Explorer intake. Anyone used a stock box that mounts clean and doesn't look too bad? Thanks to all of you for you information has help me a lot on my money pit I mean projet so far.

I haven't seen a stock airbox that would fit very well. The closest would be the 87-93 Mustang, Cougar/T-bird ones but that puts the inlet into the fenderwell. I think the aftermarket cone filters look better and shouldn't restrict air flow.

Just curious did you keep the stock 90 degree elbow on the Explorer intake or did you convert it over to the Mustang style? I converted mine over to the Mustang style so I could keep my AOD tranny.

I also went with stock intake on my 90 Crown Vic 5.0L; will use cone filter and fabricate mount on driver side.

This is the original setup on my 88 Speed Density 5.0. There is now a cone shaped K&N Filter on my truck.

I bought the motor out of a Mark VII and bought the P-heads and explorer intake from someone else. I don't have the 90 degree elbow for it yet. How does it interfer with the AOD? I'll be running mass air so if I go the cone route, I'll need a shielded type to keep the fan air off the mass air sensor. Thanks for the feedback guys. As always, you save me a bunch of headaches and heartache.

About the Explorer intake:

This is what it looks originally

This is what I changed it over to so I could retain the stock Mustang/Cougar throttle and transmission cable.

Here's the differences in throttle linkages:

Mustang/Cougar on the left and Explorer on right. The Explorer one doesn't have a spot for the AOD's throttle valve cable.

Here's my Explorer TB with the Mustang linkage.

Hope this helps.

This help me a lot. I haven't even started to think about how to do this yet so thank you. I guess it would be an easy run to the fender well with a cold air intake.
Thanks,
Mike

How do you get the throttle linkage off from the throttle body? It looks like it's peened onto the throttle plate shaft. Do you grind it off then drill and tap a screw or what? I definently don't want to mess this up!!
Thanks,
Mike
