I have a 1986 ford bronco II, 2.9V6 and the gas gauge doesn't work. I know what i need to do to get it to work but not what its called or where i can get it. the guy i bought it from said that it was a little egg like thing that sat in a little screened strainer thing in the gas tank but Ive been all over looking for it and no one has been able to tell me what it is or where i can find it. it just sits in that little circle when you open the top of the tank its right there he says i haven't looked if anyone has any idea or ways i could fix it especially for cheap that would be great.
Thanks.
if it is totally dead..you may have a wiring issue,,check the fuses, make sure you have power getting to the sending unit...the float might not be the problem..may just be a minor electrical problem
> check the fuses, make sure you have power getting to the sending unit
FWIW: Power does not go to a sending unit because positive current can result in sparks around gas vapor which leads to explosions. It works off resistance and ground.
Great call on the sending unit and float. Just changed mine and that was the problem also. I have an 84 Bronco II in excellent condition with 5 ft. Meyer plow. Just bought it, if there's any questions, this will be first place I check.
Thanks,
AF
hey, I'm kinda new here, I have an 85 bronco ii Eddie bauer Ed.
The gas gauge on mine isnt working either. It reads empty with a full tank, and the 'low fuel' light is always on. I suspect that this is a problem with the float, but I have NO IDEA how to get to it, do i need to drop the tank? or is there an access panel under the carpet in the back?
there is no access under the carpet unless someone in the past has cut a hole in the floor..otherwise you have to drop the tank..which i did when i had my 86 b2..took me about 3-4 hours to do..just mark all your hoses and fuel lines to make sure they go back in the same place.before you drop the tank, check your fuses, check to make sure there is resistance going to the sending unit..may just me an electrical problem
