I had a slight trans overheat the other day, and now I am finally getting around to choosing a new trans cooler. Should I go with the 6.0 cooler, or isn't there another option? I thought there was. Anyhow I want to go with the best value. Thanks, Dale
Alot of the guys here use the Long TRU-COOL LPD (low pressure drop) cooler.. They come in different sizes.. mine is the 28,000 lbs size..Just do a google search for the best price..
I personally believe its six in one hand or half a dozen in the other. Temp comparisions between the two seem to be about the same. No one has any flow restriction issues with running a Trucool and a stock cooler that I've heard of. I say go for the one that you can get the cheapest. Then enjoy cooler tranny temps!
ebay is a right time and place kind of purchase, thats why I went with the tru-cool. Been over a year now and when towing back from texas when we hit kingman Az and all the way thru the cali desert temps were 108-114 and my temps were never higher than 180*. (actually I did hit almost 190* on a 8mi uphill pull then quickly came back down to 170 range ).
The trans cool seems like the way to go to me! That is a ton cheaper than the 6.0 stuff I have seen on eBay.
Me on the otherhand. I have a 96 Grand-Am with a giant hole in the oil pan that I am trying to trade for a 6.0 intercooler and trans cooler. I got that baby for free on the side of the road. All it cost me as about an hour putting the intercooler hose back on my truck on the side of the highway (I neglected to grab the toolbox so they had to be delivered) and a $130 trailer tire.
