04Reverse Sensing System, how to turn off?

Hello, this is my first post and I think this is a great site. I have a 1994 Expedition Eddie Bauer with 20,000 miles. I tow a boat and when I back up the RSS drives me crazy, is there a way to turn off RSS? I looked at the owners guide and it said to go to the information center when i'm in reverse and turn it off but there is no indication of RSS on the info system just the mirrors on an off. If any one has any advice please let me know. Thanks in advance, Dan

I have a 03 EB with the back up system also. When I'm backing up to hook up to my camper or backing into a spot with the trailer that thing drives me nuts! When backing into a tight spot with the trailer, I don't know which is worse, the bong bong bong of the seat belt or the beep beep beep of the back up alarm. I keep jumping in and out to see if I'm backing up correctly and can't keep putting the seat belt on for a 10 ft trip in reverse going 3mph
What I do is hit the reset button on the info center when I'm in reverse and it temporarily turns it (back up sensor) off. Once you go into drive you'll have to reset each time you go into reverse again.

Yup, put it in reverse, hit the reset button. Annoying as hell.

There is a SSM. It details how to update the computer to allow the driver to disable the reverse sensing sysem for the entire "key turn" So you can press reset to turn it off, and it will stay off until you turn it back on, or turn off the truck.

I was able to get my servicing dealer to do it for free.

Special Service Message # 17815 - MULTIPLE VEHICLES -- PROCEDURE TO DISABLE REVERSE SENSING SYSTEM (RSS) FOR ENTIRE IGNITION CYCLE - SERVICE TIP.

To program the reverse sensing system (RSS) switch so it will disable the RSS system for the entire ignition cycle, rather than turning back on each time the transmission is put into reverse, Perform the following using the NGS service card (Green Card) Level 10 or higher

1 Select service bay functions
2 select PAM module
3 Select module option content (Hit Trigger)
4 Select Vehicle (Hit Trigger)
5 Hit trigger to highlight IGN or REV
6 Scroll to toggle between IGN or REV (Hit Trigger)
7 Select done which is soft key #8 (Programming Should Now Be Complete)
Effective Date 05/20/04

Thanks for the help, but even when I push reset nothing happens? Maybe I should just take it to the dealer. If any one has any ideas please post them. Thanks again.

I'd go to the dealer, when you press reset when the system is on it should deactivate it.

I posted this back in Oct (How time fly’s) after many calls and many internet searches I went to wickstrom ford Illinois and one of the mechanics made it his quest to fix this problem, like others he had never seen this problem before. After he hooked up his computer he figured out that the expedition’s computer (RSS) was never configured from the factory to shut on or off or to show up in the message display system. He reconfigured the computer and it all works great I can turn it on and off like it’s supposed to be and I’m pretty excited since I’m towing snowmobiles this weekend and I’m not the best backer upper if you know what I mean. Thanks for all the help and now all I need is some snow can anyone help with that? Thanks again this is a great site.
