I verified the part number with the Flowmaster website before I posted, so I know it is out there. If you go to the "Retail Price List" link on the left side of the FM homepage, and then do a part number search, you will find it.

I tried different mufflers on my mustang but w/ 6 cat the all sounded like stock. The best sound that I came up w/ was straight pipes. Has anyone tried removing the muffler all togther? If so what was the sound like?

BuiltToughF250 did.

"from start up at idle, to about 2200-2400 RPM's it sounds AWESOME. after that it sounds like a indy-car. REALLY loud, high pitched, a few too many cylinders firing."

I just put a FM40 with dual 2.5" pipes and 22" tips. From what I have read dual 2.5" works as well as 1 3" pipe. I've noticed slight performance gains, and awesome decibel gains. I debated on putting the FM70 on, but now having the 40, the 70 would have been too quiet for my taste. I think the FM40 is the only way to go.

OK many years since math but
a 3 inch pipe has a TFA (total flow area)of 7.1
a 2" 3.15 X 2 is 6.3
2.25 4 X 2 8
2.5 4.9 X 2 9.8
So your 2 2.5"'s are a good bit better than 1 3"

I am not sure what difference the bigger "TFA" output would make (except for sound) with only 3" pipe on the inlet side.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Aug-02 AT 08:16 PM (EST)]Call me a whimp! I just ordered a 70 Series from Summit. I should have it Thursday and hopefully get it put on this week or next. I will post a sound file when I get done so you can hear the difference. I love the sound of Monsta's but I spend a lot of time on the highway and was afraid the drone might cause me to go insane.....I am also ordering a SuperChips Micro-Tuner this week now that it is V10 friendly. Between the two, I sure hope I notice some difference.....

I cannot hear mine at any speed above 55. Below that it is non-intrusive music!

Good luck with your 70 series!

Exciting news about the SCMT, huh! I think I just found a new toy!

Tell us what you think. Interesting it does not need the PCM code.

Ok, I just got back from the muffler shop. The 70 series is VERY mild sounding. If you are looking for a stock or very near stock sound from a higher flowing (hopefully) muffler, the Flowmaster 70 Series is the muffler for you. I sounds nothing like the 40 Series sound clip Monsta put up. I will be happy to put up a sound clip if people want it but there is very little to hear.

As far as performance, I certainly don't feel anything but I never jump on it anyway. I was just looking to free up the exhaust a little. Hopefully when my Microtuner comes in next week I will be able to feel some difference. If not, I will have just wasted about $500 in mods for no reason. Cross your fingers.

Monsta -

Just listened to your sound clip this AM - WOW!

I love the sound. Did you add this to the stock
headers/pipes? Is your Cat. still in place or
a test pipe? Just curious. I may have to get
me one of these after hearing yours. Man, I got
a lot of 'splaining to do to the wife, esp. after
just ordering the SuperChips Micro Tuner this AM !

ouch.....
