I managed to crack my windshield on an overhanging branch…
When I phoned local glass companies for replacement glass I got prices ranging from $230 for “regular” and almost $500 for “Super Duty”. All the lady on the phone could say was different was that the “Super Duty” actually had “Super Duty” silk-screened onto the glass. That’s a lot of money for some 6 inch lettering!! Is there any reason why I should NOT get the cheap one? Is there optical quality differences or maybe extra tinting or something?
As a third, most desireable option, I would actually LIKE to replace it with the Harley glass from Ford so it is as close to stock as possible, but NOT for over twice the cost.
any thoughts?

Check with your insurance company too, a lot of times there is no deductable on glass so you may be covered. If you are covered I would make them pay for the Super Duty glass to keep your value up.
I checked and, sure enough, my deductible on glass = $500. Can you say “conspiracy”?!?!?! Almost as if they KNEW that’s what it would cost. Not sure I even WANT super duty printed in my glass. I just didn’t want some crappy low-budget glass either. Hmmm – decisions, decisions.
In either case, there goes my slush money that was slater for MATT TUNES!! Have to start saving again. Tell you the truth, i may go without a windshield just to have matt's tunes. - kidding (sorta)

It's really up to you... The quality of the glass is more than likely the same as long as the plain glass is an OE glass. Personally, I would get the "Super Duty" but I'm **** like that... Ain't nobody messin with my dots... Nice looking truck, make sure those glass guys are real careful around it..
wow...makes me feel lucky. I have a $100 deductible on glass that I can exercise once a year. The way a local shop does the payment paperwork, it doesn't cost me a cent, and the insurance company gets the bill.
As for the windshield emblazoned with the words "Super Duty," I'd pass. If you can't take one look at it & tell that it is a Super Duty, you probably aren't interested in it to begin with!

You may have had one too many beers . . . staker. Glass has a seperate ded that is typically $250 to $500, not waived. They promote the patch approach for free but not replacement.
It seems you have a Harley SD, is this true? If so, shouldn't you have the Harley lettering on your windsheild? Either way the Ford Part Number for the SD with harley lettering is 4C3Z 2803100-AA at $379.30 at Ford List and the Standard Super-Duty lettered glass is 3C3Z 2503100 CB at $277.05 Your Local Dealer should be able to order this for you. Most dealers stray away from it do to the Likley hold of the glass being damaged during shipping, but some still go for it. Hope this Helped, if you think so please don't be affraid to give a good rep.
Wow! Everyone should check with their agent. My 100% glass is only a few bucks a yr. Well worth it. Between my 4 vehicles I prolly get one windshield a yr.
You should NOT pay $500 for the OEM Carlite "SuperDuty" glass.. I paid $270 installed at the local glass shop in New Jersey(where I used to live).. $500 is robbery. My glass is EXACTLY the same as the factory glass. You'd never know it was replaced.
Thanks for the help all (and for the compliment Johnny). I have only had it for a couple of weeks. Let’s hope this is the worst trauma it sees for a while. It Scared the CRAP out of me when it hit. It was a branch blown over from storm damage and I couldn’t swerve to miss it (one car oncoming and one on my rear). Had to just wince and take it. The branch was as thick as my forearm – lucky it didn’t whack the pillar worse than it did. Wonder of the city would make good ‘cause the park service maintains the tree pruning.
Ccerniglia – yes, it is a Harley and I would like to get that part number – thanks. The logo is very small at the bottom, not sure if it’s worth a hundred bucks on top of standard.
