500 bucks is a rip off - call someone else. Let them know your picky about getting a good tech. I would request Carlite or Pilkington brands. I wouldnt order it from the dealer, you should be able to get it cheaper from a glass shop. If the glass company doesnt sell you the glass then they wont guarantee it, even if they break it while installing it.
I work for an automotive OE glass plant. I see you are in Columbus OH, which is where our AGR warehouse is located. There is no difference in the AGR or the OE. Trust me I make the stuff. Try calling the Pilkington warehouse yourself - they may let you bypass the middle man - sometimes they will - sometimes they won't. Could save you $$$$$
A side note on the glass - not so much about the "Super Duty" thing, but glass quality.
We have a glass shop in town that sells "OE" glass that really sucks. It seems that the "OE" label is all about how it maintains the integrity of the vehicle during an accident, how it is suitable for airbags to deploy against... But nothing about how it lasts.
The windshields I got from them (that's right - more than 1, didn't learn my lesson the first time) pitted very quickly. They use a lot of sand and salt on the roads here in the Minneaplois area and the windshields were impossible to see out of (due to sun glare) within a year of being replaced.
Watch for the "cheap" option being second rate glass!

If you have a shop claiming to sell "OE" glass, they are full of it. The only place it is possible to buy OE from is the dealer or the original manufacture, such as Pilkington, Guardian, PPG ect....... All glass that we supply to replacement shops is sold as AGR - should still be the same quality as OE but should not be sold as OE.

sorry to hear about your experience
Glass shops sell glass as OE because most customers have no idea what AGR is. Although they may not be technically correct, As long as its the same original brand.
I might be working at the same company as you, only in the retail side down in Florida. at least for a little longer.

I am a process engineer for Pilkington OE automotive
I just had my windshield replaced on Saturday. $334 installed w/ lifetime warranty from Diamond/Triumph Auto Glass. Got the OEM Carlite w/ the Super Duty Logo & no sun shade. I want to say I was quoted cheaper back a few months ago when I first started pricing around, but I couldnt find where I wrote it down and that was the current price. :/ Oh well, glass looks great and is the OEM glass.
wow...makes me feel lucky. I have a $100 deductible on glass that I can exercise once a year. The way a local shop does the payment paperwork, it doesn't cost me a cent, and the insurance company gets the bill.
As for the windshield emblazoned with the words "Super Duty," I'd pass. If you can't take one look at it & tell that it is a Super Duty, you probably aren't interested in it to begin with!
As a consumer, I would not worry about what AGR stands for.
As Riggz said... stick with Carlite for OEM. There arent different levels of quality on the same brand. Pilkington is also high quality, its what I have in mine right now, and Ive been installing since 89.
It is supposed to be illegal to waive deductibles anymore. Insurance companies wont pay anymore than they have set to pay. Glass companies make a lot more on insurance jobs than cash jobs.

How do I know the windshield I am buying is of OEM quality (or better)? Should I be looking for some sort of "AGR Certified" symbol?
Thanks
AGR stands for Aftermarket Glass Replacement. The best and only way to tell if you are getting OEM quality is to compare the monogram / logo that is printed normaly in one of the bottom corners of the glass. The OEM as others have mentioned, have Carlite printed in the logo for Ford and Mercury. Some older models may still have Pilkington or LOF printed on them, as we did not start printing Carlite logos until about 1995. An AGR version will have the Carlite blocked out and normally have the name of the company's logo such as Pilkington. Still in most cases the OEM company makes the same glass as we do at Pilkington. We print Carlite, GM, Nissan, Toyota, Chrysler, Dodge, or what ever other brand on the logo for glass being sent to the auto maker. We will delete their logo and put ours on if it is being sent to aftermarket replacement. This takes liability away from the automakers since they never actualy get to inspect and approve of the quality.
There are however a few mom and pop shops out there that will try and reproduce replacement glass.......These normally will not have a DOT number in the logo
READ YOUR INSURANCE PAPERS!!! I just got my renewal form with the usual addendem pages included, specificaly listed is window glass, and them not having to supply the same "trim" "wording" or words to that effect, as the orriginal equipment. I read that as they will not put in the "SUPER DUTY" glass that I paid extra for (not as a choice it was in the package ... but I paid for it) when I bought my truck. This is not a elcheapo company. I have been their "NEIGHBOR" for the 25 years Ive been driving.
Riggz, Can you shoot me (or post) a pic of your SuperDuty logo? I have been looking around town to try and see one but have had no luck. Is there a reason you did not get the sun shield?
