I remember when I was little, we used to tie an old car hood on the back of our ATV and pull it down the gravel roads (with us on it). Talk about REDNECKS. But, it was a blast.
A little harsh saying they are from the shallow end of the gene pool. Looks like they are just having a little fun. I have seen/done way more stupid stuff than that.
I would say the fellow in the wheel chair is putting himself in a position to possibly need that chair for a long time. That said, I also have done equally stupid stuff. And yes, I am a redneck also.

Man I thought I was the only one who lived through the idiot days, we use to take the pull rope from our sled and rap it around the receiver hitch of my cousins old truck. He'd pull us down the road, through ditches, and across fields.
Let me tell you folks you just haven't really lived until you've been pulled through a field on a plastic sled going 50 mph.

Someone close to me got arrested for that last week. Except they were being pulled by a truck, on a paved road, doing about 45...
I'm certain that if we had access to an ATC and wheelchair when we were kids, we would have been doing the same thing. When I think back on some of the things we did, I wonder how we survived our childhood.
Hehe, I'd try that once. I had a teacher who told us that when he was a kid him and his brother would tie and old plastic sled (krazy karpet) to his dirt bike and pull each other down the road, that ended when the cops brought him and his brother home with a krazy karpet that was half of the size it was when the they left . And yeah he admited to the class that he was a redneck.
the shallow end saying comes from a multitude of other items not just this one.

If that is all it takes to be a REDNECK, I hate to think what I'd be called for doing some of the crazy stuff I did when I was young. Not to mention the stupid crap I do now sometimes.
Never though to try that with a wheelchair, I bet it's a blast. I have been pulled behind a snowmoblie on a sled, and on snowski's many times before. It's a great time, but I wouldn't try skiing behind a snowmobile unless you're a pretty good skier.
You guys actually rode on stuff? We just used our boots.
Sounds like no one ever went bumper skiing?
We used to hang out at intersections after it snowed. A car would stop an a couple of us would grab the rear bumper and squat down low, see how long we could hang on. Great sport if the driver saw you and tried to dump you off.
