Hello Guys!
Have learned alot from this site already...but still have some more questions..
My new to me 88,200 mile '04 F-350 stick, (truck build date 8/03)is going in for an ICP code next Wed. (Code P-2285 I think)? so I want to have maybe a little more info before I go...I know most of the the guys at the dealer, but they have a new diesel tech.
Quick rundown on truck problems since I've driven 6,000 miles...
Check engine light on -week ago (ICP they tell me..has code P-2285)
Water in fuel light on and off alot..
Pulled the EgR plug (after reading sticky tech stuff on site) and seems to run better (slightly quicker to rev)
Truck runs real strong above 1400 RPM,but has little low end...Its seems to hit 1400 and hang on!
If I hold throttle steady out of gear, when it gets to 2000 RPM and above it seems to miss or stumble...
Truck runs great down the road smooth and powerful, and will pull to 100 mph easy, but has little low end power under 13 or1400...Maybe this is normal?
The miss in the eng (out of gear is strange) but never felt it on the road....
Turbo opening problem?
Thanks for listening, I am new to this motor.....
Jeff
The ICP could be the root to the out of gear problem but with driving on road the engine operates smooth (???); it's an issue you need to bring up when they work the ICP.
The low end thing is not a problem just not enough boost from the turbo at that RPM range. Most people will think the second they touch the pedal the truck should pull off, this motor needs to build boost before the horses kick in and that is what moves this beast.
Thanks for the input!....I will have the tech check it out completely on Wed....
How do you actually know when the turbo needs cleaning or is sticking open or closed?...How will it effect the driveability?....
Do they all (6.0's) need cleaning at specific times?
Thanks,
Jeff
If you have turbo vein problems you'll definitely have driveability issues. If they stick one way you'll get overboost, the other way no boost, or they could stick inbetween. If you have a boost gauge it will help to know. Some never have problems with the turbo and some have tons of problems. There is a thread/poll on that very thing running as we speak. BTW--if your water-in-fuel light is on a lot have you drained the water separator under the drivers side of the truck? If so, I recommend changing fuel suppliers and running a fuel additive. If it persists then it could be corroded internally and only replacement will fix it.
It's my understanding that the latest, at least for us in Kalifornea, program 06E17, which disable the EP sensor, will cycle the VGT at idle at random periods, and if the vanes are stuck or will not move through the entire range, base on the new program, will result in a CEL.
