<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I have 55,000 miles on my 2006 Powerstroke 6.0. Twice over the past month the truck has shut down while driving.
It takes several tries to get it started again but will restart after a few tries.
I am worried because I am about to pull my 5th wheel RV to Colorado from VA for a 17 day trip.
Any ideas?
I took it to the dealer but they found nothing and sent me home.
My only modifications are an SCT programmer and an MBRP 4" exhaust. I am running a street performance tune from Inovative Diesel in Elkton, MD. I called Inovative Diesel but they did not have any updates or recommendations for me.
The only other problem that I have seen is over the past two months the truck does not want to restart on a hot day just after I shut it down. After a few min it will let me restart. I don't know if this is related.
I would be suspicious of a faulty FICM harness as a first step. As far as I know it hasn't been a major problem on the newer trucks but your symptoms sound like that may by the case. Regardless it is almost certainly an electrical fault of some sort. I would be chacking over all the major engine harnesses to see if there are any signs of chafing or crushing.
I'm sure some of the more experienced techs will chime in with some input
It could be an hpop problem; my experience with hpop problems is limited and they have alway been work/not work kind of issues, never intermittent; so I'll leave that diagnoses to folks who know more than me

This sounds like the classic Hpop failure at the quick disconnect fitting. It shows up first on a warm engine. It will only get worse until it will not run at all. Find a competent & qualified 6.0 tech and have them test the Hpop system and ICP pressures on a warm engine. The 2005-2006 PSD had this problem and there is an upgraded part for the disconnect fitting of the Hpop.
if i am not experiencing any problems, but want to avoid something arising in the future and the moment i dont need it to, will they go ahead and upgrade it anyway w/out problems

That question is best answered by your favorite 6.0 diesel tech and dealership, but i suspect that it will not be changed under warranty unless it fails. It is not a recall just an updated part.
o well right now its at the shop and they are trying to figure out what the problem is. I'm hoping they can find it out soon cause I live in south Texas and we have a storm comming
