1993 F150 XL:
Short Bed
300 6 (4.9)
5 Speed Manual
Miles: ?
Are there any problems that I should be aware of when looking at this truck? Rust isn't bad except on the bed. Even there its not horrible though. Cab Corners and backside of front wheel wells will need some attention though. Mainly surface Rust.
Go for it. The 300-6 and 5sd is a good combo for a all round truck . Good tork . and MPG.
As for gas cab corners and fenders /patch panels are cheap, or fix what have. Check under truck for rust . Take for a ride and see how shifts ETC . Any burps while driving. Check brakes and u joints . Look for oil pan and valve cover leaks . Ask what repairs have been done . Well Good luck
Look in the coolant overflow bottle for any sludge or brown residue. This may be a sign of some kind of leak or you may notice if someone if someone added radiator stop leak. Obviously if there isnt any in there that could mean a leak. Look at the perches the leaf spring shackles sit on and make sure they arent rusted through or cracked. They can be replaced or fixed but that may be a price barganing subject.
The milage isnt all it's cracked up to be. You will notice that it is a slow truck. It is slow unloaded. It is slow loaded. It is slow with exhaust, intake, gears, anything. They are slow but they will just keep going. The problem is if you're in a hurry you will go through gas a lot quicker than you think. Make sure you start the truck on both tanks to see if a fuel pump is bad. When you test drive it put it in like third at about 20mph and floor it to see if the clutch slips. If you can't feel the truck pulling hard, the clutch may be going out. I love my truck but just make sure you know yours is going to be reliable.
The brakes were just replaced a little while ago. I crawled under the passenger side and was looking it from there. Rust underneath isn't half bad. There is some surface rust at the front of the floor pans. But around here thats pretty typical.
Was hydraulic clutch factory? Cause this truck has one. Dad said it din't feel bad at all.
Sounds like a good buy man when its just surface rust thats a good thing cause they rust bad in those spots especially the wheel wells mines already gone through
201k miles is what I was told. Brand new fuel pump. Front brakes, rotors and that stuff is only a year old. Rear brake assemblies have only been driven down the driveway from the garage to sit by the road with a for sale sign on it. Its gonna need some bondo on the bed to pass inspection. Runs like a top, the guy just got tired of the gas mileage. The last 50k or so were mainly highway miles. The 150k before it were from his brother in law. Ill find out what those miles were mainly.
clogged oil pickup, warped rotors, brake problems, fan clutch, leaking fuel lines, leaking fuel tanks, bad fuel pump, tire problems from sitting in one spot, front end problems, 4x4 problems.
get the idea?
i am not saying this is not a good truck, just talking to you about what you asked and that was what could be wrong.
this is a rust belt vehicle with a lot of miles and it is going on 15 years old.
