I have a 2006 Powerstroke and i will try to start it sometimes and it will just crank and crank and crank and not start but then i will stop and try again right away and it will start right up. but sometimes i won't have a problem with it. Does anyone know whats goin on????
Your truck is new enough that this should be a warranty item.
I do not know much about diesels...
WIld guess is maybe the crank position sensor is getting flakey? SOme of the older Ford engines had sensors that would go bad and then the computer would not know when to do certain things. I had one that was intermittant on a Taurus and it was a pain to diagnose until I read another website about this kind of problem. Maybe this is your problem?
Don't know if the powerstroke has a tach and how it works, but the clue on the Taurus was that the tach would jump around a lot, like full scale or stay stuck at zero when the problem was happening.
Maybe an issue with the HPOP but I thought that was sorted out for 06? If there is a small leak that will not allow it to build to the proper pressure, no fire. Happened to me, all under warranty. One of the diesel techs should chime in soon to give you some more info.
