Tires

Now that I have decided to buy new tires I can't find the tire thread that was recently running. I have a '06 4x4 Exp with 28000 miles that still has the Conti. tires. The only problem with them is that they are VERY noisy on the hiway--I mean VERY VERY noisy. I live in Ft. Myers Florida and need a 4x4 like a hole in the head, but I am still suffering from combat fatigue from fighting snow in PA during 40 years of driving there. Driving a 4x4 is really soothing mental treatment (uh, except for these tires). I am leaning toward Michelin tires, probably the XLT discussed previously. What do they look like? How is the rainy weather resistance to hydroplaning? What do they cost? Who is a reasonable supplier and what do you guys think of Sam's Club for tires?

Check out "tirerack.com". It's a good source of information when shopping and comparing tires. They have pictures of the tires as well.

I own a 2000 5.4 EB 4x4. Check out the Bridgestone DUELER "Revo's" best on/off road tire I've owned. Quiet, not bad gas milage, wet roads, and handleing, can't tell you about snow and ice though I live in SW. Fl. Love those tires

I have always leaned towards the Michelin LTX M/S. Quiet, nice ride, great in water and snow. Had 77,000 on last pair and still had at least 10,000 miles left on tires when I sold truck. You can't go wrong! Well worth the money. Had on 01 F150 Super Crew.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos. We have those on the Expedition as well as a number of the trucks at work.

I wouldn't even take Consumer Reports seriously. Certain tires work best on some trucks and yet are terrible on others. Also, the way magazines and other places test tires is not the same as they are used in real life.

I also have the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour on my 97 4x4 XLT. They are the best tires I've had on my Expy. Quiet, great wet weather grip, great dirt trail handleing. Road noise is very minimal. I've had them on for about 10k miles now without any problems. They were a bit expensive (about $150 each) here in CA, but well worth the money. I haven't driven in the snow yet but looking forward to it.

I've got to go with the Michelin LTX M/S also. Have a '00 EB 4x4, bought it with 50K on odo, 1st week got a tread seperation on the tires that were on it, decided to replace all of them with the Michelin's. 85,000 miles later there is still some wear left in them. Worked great dragging a 6K lb. trailer, the heat of driving in and back and forth from AZ to SoCal,sand, dirt and rocks of those deserts, and in the snow of UT. I've never rotated them and they've worn evenly all the way around. A bit pricey, but I figure the per mile cost is pretty darn good. They're quiet on the road, handle well (at least as well as a 4x4 Ex is going to handle), wet and icy roads don't leave the seat covers all pinched up (the AWD might have something to do with that too). Will never buy anything else.
Just MHO

Thanks everyone. I bought a new set of Mich. LTXs today. I was inclined to go with Mich tires anyway, I've had good luck with them on previous cars. Hope the new ones last awhile on the Exp.--very pricy. The first 20 miles went well.

I own 2 sets of Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revos and they are excellent tires, could not be happier. Also, I use Firestone for oil changes every 3k miles and they rotate those for free each time. That, coupled with a life time balance and alignment means I never have any wear issues!
