Question $60 7klb floor jack @ Sam's Club

I have been looking for a new floor jack to lift my Expy and for the few times I am going to use it I saw that Sam's Club has a 7000 lb (3.5 ton) Michelin (the tire brand) floor jack for $60. I was looking into a Craftsman model but those were like 2x the price. Any one use this jack and have any reviews of it?

PLMK-Thanks!

I've got one and use it on my Excursion. Works great. One pump to meet the frame or axle, then a few pumps and she's up. I haven't had any problems so far.

Thumbs up Kewl...

I got mine last night and took it out of the box. Wow, is it heavy. Seems pretty nice too. Jacks up quickly and with few cranks. Looks like a good deal...Thanks!

My brother has had one for over a year now with no problems. Been thinking of getting one for my self.

Eric, thanks for your help. People like you are what make this board great.

TodzY2kExpy, yeah it is heavy, but I always go with the thought the truck is heavy, the jack should be too!!!

I found out really quickly how those weight numbers are false. I was trying to help someone lift a trailer with a couple of cows in it (flat tire and I was trying to help the guy out because no one else would). Total weight was under 6K but it wouldn't budge. I have a much better name brand American made unit now that does the job. I won't short change myself again buying junk for such an important job (saving $60 bucks isn't squat if it bursts a seal and the truck comes down fast). All my tools are now quality, name brand, made in the USA (except left overs from before I learned the hard way).

Personally, I'm glad I don't go to Walmart or Sam's Club any more, its junk, as are most of their Chinese imports. If you're going to spend the kind of money you spend on a vehicle, why not spend the kind money needed for quality tools?

If you really think you're getting the same quality for half the cost I've got some land in the Everglades for sale.

I bought a Black Hawk floor jack 2 ton about 20 years ago and I though that it would last me alife time at home. I payed $375.00 for it then. A seal went out and it cost $240.00 to rebuild it last year, and it is not the same. I would buy the $60 one

Often you do get what you pay for. I have 2 jacks that were in the $100 range and I wish I had bought one $200 jack instead. They work fine and have been around for a few years now, but the quality is just not there. The load ratings for most inexpensive jacks can not be trusted.

I own a floor jack which was purchased from Sams Club probably six - eight years ago. I've used it very sparingly. The heaviest thing I've lifted with it was at 3000 lbs. The jacks rated at 6000 lbs.

Its developed a leak around filler screw which can't be cured by tightening and theres no oring or gasket for that fitting.

The brand on it is Allied, I expect it was made in china or taiwan.
I believe it was the predicesor(sp?) to the Michelin item at Sam's.

For very occasional non safety related lifting I would use it/buy it. The price is great I'm just not too interested in buying things from Sams where top quality is my # 1 concern. Sam's sells on price. You get what you pay for.

Having said all that it, the michelin jack, could be the exception.

I have 2 of these in my shop - same jack and maker as the one sold at NAPA for about $175. I recently lifted the whole front end of a customers plow equipped F350 with a 460, as effortlessly as it was I have reasonable faith in the numbers (who the heck lifts 3 tons with one jack? if you have an 18 wheeler u get a 30 ton pin.)

and btw - you guys are paying WAY to much to rebuild simple single action hydraulic cylinders....I would expect to pay more on the order of $20 each. parts should be avail at the nearest TSC

My thoughts exactly...

I dont jack up my truck and crawl under WITHOUT puting up a pair of stands...I use this thing once every 3-4 months max.
Works fine for what I have in it.

FWIW: I would suspect on a lot of these cheap jacks that leak down, all you need is a single ball bearing that gets worn out that closes the valve. imo
