I recently swapped from 3.73 to 4.56 gears and I am getting a driveline vibration starting from 60MPH and getting progressively worse. I know it is driveline as I can make it come and go by lifting on and off of the throttle. The Yukon gears were professionally installed with all new bearings ETC. I have an early 99 with the double cardon one piece rear shaft and had the joints/slip yoke serviced including balancing to no avail. I peeked under a few of my friends newer SC trucks and they had the non-cv, flanged style shaft. I then had a new flanged non-cv shaft built and the vibraition is worse. The pinion angle looks dead on and the vibration doesn't change when the gooseneck is on, loading the rear down either.
your saying you have a 1 piece drive shaft?? I asked Marty at trucktoyzperformance about converting my 2 piece shaft into a 1 piece and this was his response
"One piece rear drivelines work well as long as you are not over 73" in length (flange to flange) and do not plan on regearing the truck. Trucks with one piece drivelines and 4.56 gears or greater typically exhibit a high speed vibration due to the weight of the shaft."
What kind of set up do you have?Is your truck lifted etc....?
By the sound of it you have a aftermarket one piece drive shaft, with a CV at the transfer case is this correct?
It sounds like your pinion angle is could be causing the vibration.
I have a one piece CV shaft and had the exact symptoms you described. With the stock shaft I had vibes at 60mph with the new shaft them vibes now were at 75.This was due to the faster spinning DS.Generally the pinion needs to be -2* I got some angled shims and have no more vibes.
My truck is a stock height SC shortbed 4x4 F250. It was equipped from the factory with a one piece cv driveshaft. I added a non-cv shaft yesterday(without changing pinion angle) and it was worse. The pinion is pointing at the ouput shaft. Odly enough, the vibes don't change when the rear is loaded down. Today, I removed the new shaft and had the cv shaft balanced(again) and it is a little better.
I am down to a few options.
1. If possible, replace steel DS with aluminum unit.
2. Adjust pinion angle
3. Remove and service Tcase bearings (end play seems high) and trans mount
4. All three
Thanks for the help
