Question Back-up light fuse size

Installing backup lights on my 66 F100. Just wondered if any of you guys could tell me what size fuse is used in the 67-72 back-up light circuit? Thanks, Brett

Hate to bust your bubble, but if these are add-on, the factory wiring will not handle the load. Ford used 18ga wire which is very very light duty. I think the tail lights have a 10 amp fuse, for all the lights, I will have to look.

I would recommend that you install a relay and pull the load directly from the battery. I have built a external box that uses transistor instead relays. I ran a 10 ga wire to the back for trailer lights, then used my solid state relays to energize when ever a signal was present. There is nothing like having a short in a trailer and it takes all of your lights except the headlight.

If they flicker, yours may be a simple switch adjustment.

Biggut, I found my fuse box, the backup is a 15 amp. The old fuse box is labeled but is hard to see, black on black. But also powers the rest of the park lights.

btw, you did not say if these were after market or factory.

They are stock-from a 67. Thanks for the info, I may just wire into the park light circuit.

I need to take my no load device apart to see what transistors I used. It's a very simple circuit. Only requires 1 transistor for each circuit. 1 lead for power (from battery fused), 1 for trigger (turn, break...), 1 to external light. If I recalled the transistors were rated at 10amp. So far I have used my original box on 4 different vehicles. So if you have a short on a trailer, it pops the main fuse and not take your truck lights out. Ideal for this very small gaged (18ga) factory wiring, if you pull trailers. When I find it I will post a new thread.
