on my 2002 F350 crew cab went out. It'll drive the window down but not up. Took it apart but I'm lost when it gets to circuit boards. I was able to identify the "up" wire and hot wire it to get the window back up again but is there a repair for this? or is it easier to replace the whole thing?

~seems like my 89 F150 all over again. After the trucks cross 100k, all the little stuff starts falling apart. The turn signal auto-cancel broke, the footbrake ratchet won't hold so no footbrake, the tailgate latch on one side is sticking...other than that, love the truck!
mine did this the other day. i mashed the button a few times and it eventually started working again. i think it's a short in the actual switch or some debris got down in the contacts.

Thats how I fix the interior intrument lights when they go out, a good solid hit and whamo! the light works again. Fonzie would be proud!
best tool in the tool box is the closed fist! to answer the original post, if beating up the switch doesn't solve the problem, you could try finding a switch panel on ebay or a parts yard.
As far as I know the window switches are a Ford item only. I've been hoping an aftermarket company would come out with new ones and add auto down to all windows, but it hasn't happened yet.
Thanks all. Yes I did try for aftermearket first but, as you asy, none available yet. I did take the module apart and I'm sure if there's an electronics geeek in here someplace, they could probably engineer an upgrade so's all four windows could be fully auto up & down, or even tied to the remote so's you can open all four on a hot day to cool the cab before you get in. That would be great, especially for black ones!

~anyway, picking up a new module tomorrow - $130 or so - so if anyone wants the original, let me know and I'll send it on...
Are you paying $130 for the window switches? If so you may want to check with directfordparts, or y2kford. They are both site sponsors and have the same switch for around $65.

The issue with the switch is fixable, as my 02 did the same not too lng ago. At the time I didn't want to screw with it, so i bought the switch from Ford (I only paid about $45 though...preferred customer apparently!). After replacing the switch (about a 10 minute job), I decided to get into the old one. It took me about 4 hours to track down the problem, so in my book it was definitely NOT worth fixing ($45 for new switch....4 hours to fix...that's $11.25 per hour....my time is worth a LOT more than that to me). Anyway, back to the root of the evil....the activation or "hot" wire for the up action in the window had actually broken inside of the insulation. i would intermittently get function, but not consistent. Being that I have fat fingers, and those wires and switches are so dam small....it ended up in the garbage can. Don't know if that was the issue on yours, but that's what happened on mine. Just my $0.02
sofdchief,
That could well be the same issue I had. It did kinda hiccup going up over the last week but I just thought I wasn't hitting the button right. I could send it to ya so's you could maybe start a recall effort...
As you say, our time is definitely worth more than $11.50 per hr; altho' sometimes I think I'd make more money working at a burger shack...
