Trouble Codes- System Too Lean
171- System Too Lean and 174- System Too Lean (bank 2)
I did install a K&N FIPK and a Borla Cat Back. I got the code once before (after installing the mods) but cleared it by disconnecting the battery. I read somewhere here that when you do mods you need to "reset" the computer and then you would not get the SES light again. This lasted about 75 miles until it came on again. I cleared the code this time with the new scanner.
Does anyone know what what the remedy for these codes is? I have a 2003 V10 F-350

But come to think of it - the FIRST thing I would do is clean the MAF sensor on the intake very carefully. The oil from the K&N can coat the sensor and throw it out of calibration. K&N's sometimes come way over oiled. And most Ford MAFs do not go thru a self clean cycle like some others do where they heat up to burn off oil.

Thanks- I've got a Diablo on order. I'll see if this makes a difference.

I'll do this also using the q-tip technique (although I do have the Grannetteli MAF).
Again- thanks!

Yep, yep, this is what I'd do first. I'll just about guarantee that this is what it is. All things being constant but the K&N, and this being a common complaint with K&N users, I would certainly suspect this is the culprit.

I haven't had it recur since I cleared the codes over 200 miles ago. I think I'll let it go unless the come up again.
Thanks-

I had the same thing happen to me. Right at the elbow before entering the engine (TB). Burger was hard to find. Had it Auto Zone but the guy could't figure it out from the codes. Took it to his dad who has a service shop and found it w/ a garden hose. Said he had an Explorer in the previous week w/ the same problem.
