Kramer guitar worth $300?

My buddy is selling his Kramer guitar at an asking price of $300. It is supposedly 1 of 1200 or something like that. Ive played it a long time ago and i liked it a lot. The thing is that im poor and cant be shelling out $300 if i dont have too. If the pawn shops only offer like $150 or a similar price then obviously i can talk him down quite a bit. He warns me that hell sell it to a mutual friend for the $300 cause that guy can easily afford it. The thing is i know he wont do it because that guy is a crappy guitar player and he wants his guitar to be appreciated and to have a good home. It sounds dumb but thats the way he sees it. So what im asking is if this guitar is as rare as he says it is then is it really worth $300? Hes trying to sell it quick to make money for a better guitar.

You'd think that if it as rare as he says it is it'd be worth more than 300 bucks. Maybe he is full of it or taking advantage of you.

Yeah, do a little research. Few things can ruin a friendship like feeling like you got ripped off. Who knows, maybe it's worth considerably more than $300 and he's trying to cut you a deal.

I know nothing about Kramer (never even heard of them) guitars, but $300 is extremely cheap for a good guitar...especially if it is truly a rare guitar. But if you like it and think it's worth it, that's all that matters.

Unless I'm mistaken I believe Eddie Van Halen played a Kramer. The few I've played seemed to be fairly good quality guitars, so what it really comes down to is just how much is it worth to you?

Well hes letting me borrow the guitar for a while to decide if i want it or not. Ive researched the guitar and found out a little about it. When the guitar first came out was in '86. It was discontinued in '89. It sold between $330 to $370 retail. So i figure with inflation and all of that, that $300 is an ok price. Its a bit steep, and i know the pawn shops wouldnt give him $300 for it, but theres other people that will and i really like the guitar so i think ill do it. And i do know he paid more than $300 for it when he bought it about a year ago. It sound silly but one thing i really like about this deal is he has the original leather case! I

Yes, eddie has a kramer so does richie sambora but not the one i have. This one is a cheaper version.

Also im not worried about the friendship being harmed, if i was to get jipped it would be all my fault for not doing the research before shelling out $300. I consider friendship to be one thing, and when i do buisness its another. Hes asking $300 cause he knows he can get that much for it with little effort. Funny, the fact that other people are crappy negotiators costs me money.

Ill take a pic of it and put it in my gallery, so go check out my gallery! (If its not there give me some time its cause i just now got this camera phone and am still figuring everything out.)

Just because it's old or cheap doesn't mean it's a bad guitar. One of my favorite guitars (Strat) I bought for $100.

Well, the electronics were completely shot but the neck and body were still good so I just rebuilt it like I wanted it.

I got one of my strats for $200. Its a cream white color (same color as one of hendrix's guitar) 3single coils. Its practically new, its was hardly used at time of purchase, not a scratch on it.

Before I guy any guitar, even new, I check for a warped neck. Cheaper ones are almost always warped, and even some of the name brands if the instrument hasn't been properly stored. Steel rods in the neck help some, but aren't foolproof. jd
