Ball Pythons

Anyone own or have owned a ball python??? A friend of mine is in the proess of moving, and im going to be taking care of his snake for a while and have kind of become attatched to it somewhat and am looking to get my own. I was just wondering on some things, ive read that they havent been known to be very aggressive has anyone heard different?? Also how much do you usualy feed, i fed this one 2 mice today and he went right after them, but after he ate hes been a little mopy. I think this would be normal seeing how hes digesting and all but he just kinda sits there. I really want a snake of my own and i want to have all the knowledge or at least most f it untill i go into this long partnership with my little reptile companion. 20-30 years is a long time for a pet!!

i have owned them in the past and they are acctually a very tame snake
it just depends on how big they are as to how much you feed them at a time but normally they only need fed every few months ( believe it or not) but whatever you do dont think that you have to feed the snake befor you handle it it you do this then anytime the lid is opened the the snake will think that it is food

We had one as a class pet when I was in the fifth grade.

I think that it might have eaten one mouse every few weeks, but I really don't remember. I know the mice reproduced a lot faster than the snake ate them...

It was a harmless enough pet, but I'm not much of a snake guy. I prefer furry things that will curl up on the couch with me.

this thing will curl up on the couch with you!!! Im thinking your right on the food thing, the guy im taking care of it for didnt really take care of it and he dont know when the last time his mom fed it but it looks healthy enough everywhere online says when they are young feed them 2 of the small mice every 1 to 2 weeks or so im going to do some research but i thought id ask here first seeing how all of us ford owners seem to have a lot of hobbies including our trucks! Not to mention everyone here has been a great help with everything in the past and id trust yall more then id trust some other people who own them!

My brother-in-law has 2 of em. When ever we're there he gets 'em out, the kids handle 'em, 3 and 10, never any problems. We just sit and let 'em crawl all over us. If they ever mate, I'll get one of the kids. His are about 6 years old now, maybe 3' long. He feeds 'em a mouse every 3 to 4 of weeks. If you feed them live mice, you'll have a hard time getting them to take frozen. Also, he says to never feed them in there cage, or they won't eat anywhere else. Take em out, he puts em in a card board box top, hold the mouse by the tail and let him scratch, an SNAP! Its a blast. Plan on a mouse escaping though, it can happen. And check the cage often!

Then he was probably due for a feeding. The way I understand it, these snakes won't over eat.

A little off topic, there was a 37 year old parrot in the paper some one was giving away, I figured, yea hospice. Wrong, that parrot could live another 60 years. Wonder if my grandkids will want a parrot?

I had one, he was a great pet -- very tame and very relaxing. Had to get rid of him because the wife was scared crapless of him. Fed him 2 mice every 2 weeks. I only got bit once by him, but that's because his dinner was in the room and I stuck my hand in the cage. The snake immediately knew he bit something he couldn't swallow and let go. A Ball Python should not bite you unless it smells something that could be its dinner. Remember, they can't see worth a damn, but have amazing senses of smell and can sense heat.

the only good snake is a dead snake... Sorry, that's just how I feel.

Is it big enough or venemous enough to kill anyone? I don't know anything about snakes, so it might be a stupid question. But if the answer is yes, cut it's head off.

No, ball pythons arent venomous snakes. if I recall right, it is unlawful to posess a venomous snake. I want one myself, but my dog and the snake, umm, no go.

Ball Pythons are not aggressive, like most pythons/boas. They get their name because they curl up into a ball to protect their heads when threatened.
