Have you checked the ignition timing to make sure it is not retarded? I like to run with the timing advanced a couple of degrees ahead of factory specs for fuel economy and good throttle response. If your engine has a vacuum advance on the distributor I would check it out also. You can hook manifold vacuum directly to it to test it.

It's fuel injected.
Doesn't the computer time the engine?
I tried moving the timing but it made no difference.
Any other ideas?

People have had problems with stumbling, hesitation, etc due to the EGR valves on the EFI engines. You may want to investigate creating a "restrictor plate" for it to better control the amount of flow it meters. This has been known to make a vast difference in the EFI's driveability. Do a search on the forums for "EGR restrictor plate".

Good luck, keep us posted.

Take a look at the Idle air control valve on the top of the throttle body, make sure it is working and isn't all gummed up or stuck open and the change the throttle body gasket (tech bulletin on that one). EFI timing is controled by the computer, all you can do is set the initial (base) timing--normal is 10 degrees advanced.

I did change the throttle body gasket. The old one did have a vacum leak because it was all twisted for some reason.I changed it because I replaced the stock throttle body with a larger 5 litre one.Which by the way to all you nay sayers it does definately give you better performance.Even with the hesitation I noticed the difference.
However I used the same idle control from the original throttle body.
I will check that out tomorrow and let you know how it worked out.
Thanks for the help.
