This winter, the heater in my '83 F150 did not get very warm. I have replaced the heater core and the thermostat. I cleaned ink pens and pencils out of the heater that were blocking the heat door. It still does not get very hot.
The heater hoses under the hood are one behind the other coming out of the heater. One goes to the thermostat and one goes to the water pump. Which is which? Perhaps I got them backwards when I replaced things(?).
If not, should I switch them and "back flush" the system to see if that improves things?
Thanks!
It sounds like you did got the hoses backwards. the one to the water pump is the return line, and the one off of the intake is the HOT side. If your looking at the heat core the right side inlet is where the intake side goes into. the left side is the return to the pump.
What thermostat are you running? One of those 160 degree jobs will do ok until it gets really cold, then you will want the stock 195 back in it. Also make sure the doors in the ductwork are working correctly.
Looks like I may have the hoses backwards. I'll switch those tomorrow. I had replaced the thermostat once with the 160 or 180. Figuring that might be the source of my problems, I changed it out again to the 195. Thanks for the information and the pictures. Very helpful!
