I have a 1994 ford f150 5.0. My ABS light flashes constantly while the truck is running. I looked to my haynes manual for help. The haynes manual was talking about the KAM(keep alive memory). As I read the possible codes that the KAM could give off if, it said the code 16 meant every thing was normal. Before I even did the KAM check procedure, I decided to count my flashes including pauses. It was 16! My abs doesnt work, fuse blows even when I replace it. The abs leaks around the max/min fluid level check aparatus. Any clues?
Well not many suggestions yet but I will tell you all what I found so far. I traced the wire that was causing my fuse to blow in the fuse panel. I disconnected the wire, put the fuse in and it did not blow. The minute I connected the wire I just disconnected the fuse blew and the wire I just hooked up hissed and started to smoke momentarily.
I think it's a case where one problem is causing another. I have two sensors on my reservoir. One is the fluid level sensor(not the connector I disconnected) and the other is on the end of the reservoir assembly.(the one blowing the fuse). Their is brake fluid all over the connector, which I think is causing the two pins in the connector to link together making the fuse blow. As for the leak, I think my brake system needs to be bleeded. Maybe some air in the system is causing this leak. I will let you know how it goes when I do all of this by tomorrow.
Sorry for the confusion. I am talking about the sensor that is on the end of the brake booster and the brake booster is attached to the front of the master cylinder. The brake booster is also what the reservoir sits on top of. I did however figure out what the problem is. Their are two sensors on the brake booster. The sensor for the brake fluid level, and the sensor on the end of the brake booster, which is associated with the cruise control.(when you hit the brake the sensor stops cruise control). My 94 ford has a recall out on it for the cruise control, it catches on fire! I'm betting that is the recalled piece. When ever you put the fuse in and watch the sensor at the same time, it emits brake fluid like a fountain and has a lot of smoke. I will be calling ford to take it in, I will let you all know how it turns out.
yea my bad I thought the master cylinder was what is connected to the brake booster...since it is pretty much in the shape of a cylinder, but some guy at Autozone called it the brake booster. And quicklook no duh on your part.
I didn't go to Autozone for advice, I went for parts. And when I clearly state that I'm taking my truck to the dealership to have the recall fixed and someone tells me to take it to the dealership to have it fixed....its like why am I making post if nobody reads them. But the dealership fixed it free of charge, brakes work fine.
